Pastor system

I wish I lived in Florida. I love the heat but New Jersey has cold winters.

I am a born and bred Yankee. I lived in the North-east for 34 years until I moved to Florida. I prefer the North-east and wish I could go back, but my wife is a born and bred Floridian and will not move.

Also , find somewhere beside a river so believers can be baptised.

Clear of alligators.
Not many rivers here in Central Florida, lots of lakes though. Besides, our church doesn't do immersion baptisms being Lutheran and all. Matter of fact our two children were baptized/christened last Sunday. One is 2 1/2 years old and one 3 months old.

But wasn't Jesus the Man-God??? He was 100% MAN and 100% God. So in fact Paul was and the disciples were taught by a MAN made way of learning.

I really am struggling to try and understand why there is so much resentment from you and others to those who have gone onto to Christian seminaries to learn more about our Lord and His precious Bible.

I have read what you posted but it makes no sense to me. Would you like to try again and tell me why this is a problem for you.

I have stated that an auto mechanic goes to school to learn more about cars and how to fix them. Do you want someone with no education to fix that oil leak in your cars engine?

I have stated that a brain surgeon goes to school to learn how to fix you and me when we break. Do you really want some to operate on your brain who has never had any training in what to do once he opens your skull?

Isn't the proper education needed in Christian teaching so that the correct understanding goes out. If not the example will be people like Jim Jones and David Koresh. I do hope you can help me understand why you have this particular stance as I said, I really do not get it.

Major Howdy Brother,
It is not that I am against teaching or learnig. There is a rising amount of people who instead of seeking God through a more personal relationship are turning to teachings or way of teaching thst implies bassically only head knowledge and no true Spiritual insight. It leaves them all puffed up with pride and rudness and lacking in true and real Spiritual insight and knowledge.

This does not apply nor say all teaching done by man.
Blessings
Jim

Jim, that has been going on for an eternity. Some people are just that way and there is nothing that can be done about it.

Consider how many men /women go to college to be a doctor but then are thrown out of the medical field because they were terrible doctors.

I know what you are saying I am just saying that there really is not a case here in which what you are describing can be fixed or changed.

oh sorry to hear that..how did you meet your wife? I think of scripture saying 'where you go, I will go, your God will be my God...' Ruth saying to Naomi and then Ruth becomes the wife of Boaz..she went where he was, not he to her.
My mum left her own country and met my Dad and never went back. Hong Kong is mighty humid and sticky. I think they have underground churches in China. I don't think they mean literally, underground, but they do have to hide from the atheist authorities.

I remember going to a night club kind of venue in Singapore that was a former church building.
Also in nz, a fancy restaurant called 'the church' in an old church building. It felt a bit funny to go sit there in this church turned into a restaurant. But it seems like it's retro chic to do that now, since those buildings cost a lot to maintain, and many congregations have dwindled. In the older areas.
Also I remember going to a mission estate winery, not that I drink but we had a meal there, the mission was actually catholics growing vineyards for their mass ceremony as they use alcoholic wine..and I never sensed or heard the gospel even mentioned there at all. They just wanted our money...a well off area. Even had some ppl come to our table thinking my family were rich overseas tourists, and being welcomed to the country lol.

Not one pastor really needs seminary to become what God calls him to be. God equips those He calls, and the best pastors have come up from being the most faithful servants in the church, no job too demeaning for him/her. Pastors are servants and need that servant heart, and that pliability that God can work with.

I can agree in part with you. If you want a pastor who is compassionate and loving and caring who visits the sick and helps those he can get to in what ever way he possible can. Of course that requires no more education than a tractor driver.

In fact Martin Luther once warned Christians with these words: .......
"I greatly fear that schools for higher learning are wide gates to hell if they do not diligently teach the Holy Scripture and impress them on the young folk."

The great Reformer knew of the importance of Christian education and the development of Christian thinkers, but his great fear of schools as potential "wide gates to hell" is all too justified.

However......How can one claim to be able to explain what is in the Greek text or the Hebrew text if one has not had some detailed training in the original languages?

How can one claim to be able to explain the development of a theological principle in the context of what the Bible really says if theology has not been formally studied?

How can one pronounce upon historical and cultural details of the ancient world that illuminate and explain Bible passages if one has no formal training in ancient history or religious history?

What several of you are saying is that if God calls a man to preach God will then give him all the knowledge he needs with that man opening a book or listening to a teacher. That makes no sense to me at all.

Do we think that when we get saved God instantly fills our brains with Bible knowledge and understanding of theology principles.
That is simply not so my brothers and sisters. The Bible itself does not imply such a thing. The Bible says to "Study to show thy self approved a workman for God".

Again, Dr. Jesus TAUGHT His disciples theology and the finer things of belief and understanding so that they could teach others.
What do you thin they were doing for 3 1/2 years together. What do you think all of those lectures were about????

A true story which can be found in Dr. Jack Hyles books.

He was called to preach at 16 years old. His pastor then one day asked him to preach for the church. Dr. Hyles stood and read the Bible passage just as he seen his pastor do time and time again. Then he stood there at the pulpit for about 10 minutes and then without saying a word, he sat down.

His pastor said.....Jack, what happened. Do you not have an "OUTLINE" prepared for your sermon????

Dr. Hyles said..........."An Outline. What is an outline".!!!!

Think about it folks!

Major are you sure about this ?
Prayer changes things. ;)
I only brought this up in the first place was because as of late there are more Believers being deceived into believing that they are getting the Spiritual Undertstanding (that only comes from God when we seek Him totally) by studying with a theology ONLY frame of mind and ONLY gaining head knowledge which is puffing them up with pride.

It a deception preparing for the BIG deception down the road is my entire point. It is a growing thing almost like a nerw fad these days in the body of Christ. This is all I was saying.
Blessings my friend and brother

Had a ten year non-marital relationship end, had no where to go but back with my parents 1200 miles away. I met my wife through a mutual friend 9 months later.

I understand why she doesn't go north. Her whole family is here in Florida and we don't know how the cold weather would affect her multiple sclerosis.
