Question on faith

Matthew 7:7,8
7“Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

This indicates a repetitive action. Nothing wrong with praying for the same thing over - in fact, it would rather prove your faith, than your lack of faith if you get what I mean.
What translation did you get that from? The KJV doesn't say keep.

It's called the Word of Faith movement. A very dangerous teaching.

James 1:6
6But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind.

I think prayer and faith is part and parcel.

Having shared about my mother, I do need to also say that I believe that God's will is that no one be sick. Both the enemy of God and the fact that we live in a fallen world are to blame.
I agree with this too. And thank you for sharing your mother's story. I appreciate it.

James 1:6

That is the perfect verse for this! My analytical mind was over analyzing.

Um, I am kind of new to the praying thing but I hope this helps.

We do not pray to ask God for something, we pray to talk to him, to tell him our fears and hopes, and to ask for guidance. We ask him to look over our loved ones in His way, not ours, we ask him to forgive us and to be with us and we ask him to take care of us all.

IN HIS OWN WAY

There is nothing wrong with asking (as supplication, not as demand) for our desires. And presenting our concerns before God is the first step in giving control over to Him.

Although there are some kinds of prayer that are more edifying than others, and some are central to the Christian living (such as confession), we should remember that God wants us to enjoy talking to Him. Giving thanks throughout the day for blessings great and small helps us recognize those very blessings and help us perceive His providence for our needs.

Remember that you will not be telling God anything He does not already know. When you talk to God, you are making yourself aware that God knows and understands your needs. He knew your prayers from the beginning, and can be preparing His answers for you throughout time.

If you get a chance, Watch the movie Fiddler on the Roof and watch how Tevye talks to God as he goes through life. His world is changing around him, the Czarist Russian government is persecuting the Jewish community, and his daughters are choosing husbands increasingly at odds with his faith & traditions. Tevye talks to God about all that troubles him. He treats God as a friend. Always with great reverence, but with spiritual intimacy.

The clip below is Tevye is talking to God about how he would prefer being rich. It is important to note that the greatest part of being rich would be to be able to sit and study and discuss the scriptures seven hours every day.

Thank you for posting that clip of the movie. Watching it made me happy. Now I need to watch the movie...never seen it before.

Agreed.
Also, we must keep in mind, God uses bad things to His glory, sometimes without it being immediately obvious to us.
Your story about your mom is testament to that, even though the outcome was not the one you willed for.
If it is the will of God that I leave earth tomorrow, then how will I fight to stay behind. It's senseless - will my prayers change His mind, I strongly doubt it.

I would like you to explain this God uses bad things for His glory please.
Gods will is for you to live a long healthy and prosperous life.
Thank You
Jim

Brother JUk NO and you are not 100 percent correct.
I ask of you this one question...........Have you done adequate research to say this ?
Perhaps it is just hear say that you picked up and are repeating ?
Just wondering

You are right, they are indeed answered. Sometimes the answer is "No." I should have phrased that better.

Sticking with healing. I know that if someone prays for a person to be healed, that person may or may not be healed. It depends on God's will. I mean, Jesus asked to be spared in the Garden of Gethsemane (“My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”) and was not. So why do people say that if you prayed for healing that you should have faith that you will be healed? What if the answer is no??
The answer from God is never no when it comes to healing. You may then ask why some don't get healed. Let's look at the new testament example. Did Jesus heal everyone that came to Him for healing? Was His answer ever no to healing? Now, let's take a look at Jesus's disciples: they healed many many people, but could they heal everyone that that came to them? No, His disciples could not heal every single person. The first example is given in Matthew 17:16-21. Why couldn't they heal the boy? Because of unbelief. Was it the will of God to heal the boy though? Yes! It was the will of God to heal the boy....Jesus healed him! Paul also left Trophimus sick in Miletus. I believe this proves that yes it is God's will to heal everyone but the reason why not everyone gets healed through us is due to some shortage on our part. That is why all of us have to grow up into the high place of maturity in Christ where the Spirit is left unhindered to work in us the way He did in Jesus.

Mykuhl there is another area of this as well. Say you lay hands on a person who has been sick for a very long time and they just do not get better and you do it again another time and nothing changes......

Sometimes it is NOT doubt or unbelief............sometimes it is a Loving God loving His child and answering their prayer with YES....Ok I know this does not sound like me but wait.....
Some times the WILL AND DESIRE of the person who is sick or in pain that you are belieiving to be healed simply DOES NOT WANT TO BE HEALED but rather simply wants to come home and be with their Heavenly Father.....

God does not force a healing........He may prolong the granted request as He deals with the person but in the end if this person does not want to get better then...........they wont.
Just thought I would add this to the pot/
God Bless

Thanks Jim, never thought of that point. I would image that that would be the exception though.
