It's basically the teaching that God wants you to be rich materially. The teachers in this gospel (which really is not gospel) have other damnable teachings, such as the lie that we are all small gods, but that is the basic gist of it.

Well, that can go to an extreme and become a false teaching, but it is easily recognizable. However, God does provide His children with material things with great liberality so that we can share with others. He is known as the God-Of-More-Than-Enough.

You can't make a blanket claim that people who believe this also believe other things. It's just one extreme that some people hold to.

Juk, do you believe that God prefers you to be materially poor, because that's what it sounds like.

Notice that in Mark 10:24 that Jesus says, "...how hard is it for those that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God." He says this right before what you quoted in your post. The issue is trusting or putting confidence in the riches, not possessing the riches.

It could also be said, "How hard it is for those that trust in poverty to enter into the kingdom of God."
Despite the constant condemnation of the so called prosperity gospel, in my mind there is an even greater bondage in the church to the poverty gospel.

I don't know of anyone that trusts in poverty lol. Please explain what you mean.

I'll let Francis explain, but I am seeing people almost fall over themselves to declare basically that poverty is holy, by denying the FACT that God wants to continually bless and bring abundance into His people's lives. Why? Not for just our enjoyment (although He loves to do that, too), but so that the world around us can be blessed by us.

You need to delve further into the reasons that Jesus says things. Mykuhl hit the nail on the head. God wants us to have abundance in ALL areas of life, and when it comes to finances, yes indeed. It is fine to have money, but it isn't fine for money to have us. Money can be a snare to some people...and that is why we need to walk close to Jesus.

What about this verse?

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Matthew 6:19-20

Again, those verses are referring to storing up riches for yourself, as in the means of hoarding it up. Notice how it uses the words "your treasure"? Your treasure is something you put great value and worth on. It is setting your heart on riches.
Is your heart on riches or is it in heaven?

Actually, it says, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures..." Not the same thing.

Lay up and store up mean the same thing in this case. Look up the original Greek word used: thesaurizo and you will see what I mean.
Use the interlinear bible at BibleHub, it helps a lot when it comes to seeing and understanding what the original languages of the bible say.
