JESUS - On earth in the Millennium? Questions to consider.

I have noticed that some people have been taught that `Jesus is on earth in the Millennium.` I wonder if people have really thought this through. Thus I am putting forth these questions for people to consider.

Now you may well ask, “Does it really matter if we think that Jesus is on earth or in heaven in the Millennium?”

I believe it is of the utmost importance as it strikes at the very heart of the pre-eminence of the Lord Jesus Christ. Do we bring Him down to our level (in our minds) or do we exalt Him to the highest place?

So here are some questions that may help you consider where you believe that the Lord Jesus is, in the Millennium.

  1. Why does Jesus rule physically on the earth since He has been given the authority `far above all,` in this age & the one to come? (Eph. 1: 20 – 22)

  2. Why would the Lord rule from His `footstool`& not from His eternal throne? (Isa. 66: 1)

  3. Why would the Lord leave His eternal throne, His seat of power in the highest heavens, leave His position as King of Heaven & rule from earth? (Dan. 4: 37)

  4. Why would the Lord rule over the universe, angelic hosts & the glorious realms above from this speck of dust? (Ps. 68: 17)

  5. Why would the Lord rule from this physical earth with all its frailties, when He has a glorious body made for the realms above? (Rev. 1: 13 – 18)

  6. Why would sickness, death & rebellion etc exist on this earth if the Lord was here in person? (Isa. 65: 20 Zech. 14: 17 – 19)

  7. Why would the Lord at the end of the Millennium be physically in Jerusalem, surrounded by Satan & the world`s armies? (Rev. 20: 7 – 9)

These & many more questions need to be looked at concerning this `teaching` of `Jesus on earth in the Millennium. Have you ever considered these questions? I hope you do.

Marilyn.

Thank you for posing these question, @Marilyn C . Following them through by careful, considered, Bible study, will provide a firm footing for the understanding of the millennial reign, and of the glorious position of Christ Jesus our risen Lord.

The Scriptures you have given provide a good starting point for reaching that goal.

In Christ Jesus

Perhaps you should ask Jesus himself on these matters.
Why did Jesus create this speck of dust? Why did Jesus create humankind, knowing in advance that we would fall and be lost, knowing from the
beginning that Lucifer would corrupt and pervert the creation, and oppose God and heaven?
Why would Jesus come down to Earth and give up his throne and his glory to become a man of flesh subject to hunger and thirst, our frailties?
Why did the creator of the heavens, the Earth, all living things, the universe come to planet Earth to be a nobody, born in a stable's manger,
in a cave, surrounded by smelly farm animals?
Why did God suffer cruelly to be whipped and brutalised, marred beyond recognition, and then cruelly and painfully crucified by wicked men?
Why is the planet Earth, so insignificant in the cosmos, so very significant to Jesus and God?

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:6-11
It is all about the planet Earth and us who dwell upon this mortal globe.

It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
2Timothy 2:11-12

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be
called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it,
and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 9:6-7
And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives
shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain
shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. Zechariah 14:4

Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
Psalm 48:2

Jesus shall rule for a thousand years, a millennium, and the saints shall rule and reign with him.
It is about redeeming us from Satan. Conquering and vanquishing the enemy that rules this world presently.
Usurping the rule and reign of Satan and his hordes over this planet, and in blighting the lives of humankind.
Replacing this reign of terror with a reign of righteousness (see Psalm 2).
If it was expedient and beneficial for Christ Jesus our great God and Saviour to come into the world to save humankind, then it is
also right and appropriate that Jesus will come to restore peace upon the Earth.
The scriptures reiterate over and over that Jesus is coming again to Earth to defeat all his enemies, especially Satan and wickedness.
To bring judgment on the Earth. To restore Zion and Jerusalem. To rule and reign from Jerusalem.
For the nations to come to Jesrusalem and worship Jesus and bring offerings.
It is also about great rewards to Abraham, Issac, Jacob and all of Israel; and to King David.
It is about the building of Ezekiel's temple for the Lord to dwell in, and for the nations to come to for worship.

I think that this is one of these theological arguments that can cause a lot of division in churches. I have my personal beliefs on the subject, but because scripture is not dogmatic on it, it is mostly my speculation more than anything. It'seems good to dive into it and grow in your knowledge about the end times and restoration. But I do not believe it is necessary to cause any division or arguments

I think looking at the big picture is the important part, that Christ is coming soon and we'd better be ready.

No offense sister, but isn't this one of "those" questions?

Titus 3:9 (KJV)
But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

Hi @Complete,

Thank you very much for your encouragement. It is a wondrous blessing to understand the glorious position of our Lord (as you said) far above all. And yes the scriptures are a start & hopefully we all can talk more of our wondrous Lord, the glorified Son of God who reigns in resplendent glory beyond all imagining.

Blessings, sis, Marilyn.

Hi @ JG27 _chili,

Thank you also for the encouragement friend. Would you also like to comment on what you see of our precious Lord?

Marilyn.

Hi @Waggles,

Yes, to ask the Lord Jesus Christ on these matters. That is why I have written the scriptures concerning the Lord, (see my response to Abdicate).

I agree that God`s word tells us that the Lord Jesus Christ will come & deal with the world`s armies, the Gentile`s rule, deliver Israel & set up His kingdom through Israel as promised. However what I am saying is that the Lord does not stay on earth but returns to His throne on high during the millennium.

Do you have scripture/s to show that the Lord Jesus stays on earth throughout the millennium?

Marilyn.

Hi @Klub,

I also agree that it is not good to cause division or to get into arguments. However I do believe in `speaking the truth in love.` This is how we communicate with each other (as you would know) & work through misunderstanding & false teachings.

As you can see by what I wrote to Abdicate, it is the Lord that I would seek to lift up by bringing out what is said in His word concerning Him.

What do you see of the Lord Jesus Christ, Klub?

Hi @Abdicate,

Thank you for your concern. I do respect you & what you say. However I do not see this topic as a `foolish question.` This is what I said in the OP -

`I believe it is of the utmost importance as it strikes at the very heart of the pre-eminence of the Lord Jesus Christ. Do we bring Him down to our level (in our minds) or do we exalt Him to the highest place?`

Thus I will elaborate as to what I mean -

The Pre-eminence of Christ.

I believe there is a very strong push for people to think of the Lord Jesus Christ as just some sort of superman but not really GOD. People are told He is their buddy, pal, & we even have `Jesus is my boyfriend` type songs. There is a real lack of understanding of Jesus in all His glory & majesty.

When we look at descriptions of Him we see -

`His head & hair were white like wool, ...& His eyes like a flame of fire; His feet were like fine brass...& His voice like the sound of many waters; he had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, & His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead.` (Rev. 1: 14 – 16)

And He who made all authority realms is Himself `far above all these.`

`...far above all principality & power & might & dominion & every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.` (Eph. 1: 20 & 21)

`For by Him all things were created that are in heaven & that are on earth, visible & invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him & for Him. And he is before all things, & in Him all things consist.` (Col. 1: 16)

When we get a glimpse of the heavenly court, we realise that there are realms & administrations far beyond our understanding, which are all under the Lordship of Christ.

`I watched till thrones were put in place, & the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, & the hair of His head was pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, its wheels a burning fire; a fiery stream issued from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated.` (Dan. 7: 9 & 10)

How do you see the Lord Jesus Christ, Abdicate?

Marilyn.

My stance and interpretation of scripture is the same opinion as you, I believe Christ will return in the physical sense, but not for the millennial reign. I am also not sure if the Millennial reign will be a literal 1000 years on earth or something else.

But who knows, I could be wrong. All I know for sure is I'll be in heaven worshiping Jesus wherever He is!

Good questions Marilyn. I think the proper think to do is to speak to each question you posed independently.

1. Your question was.......
"Why does Jesus rule physically on the earth since He has been given the authority `far above all,` in this age & the one to come?" (Eph. 1: 20 – 22)

WHY??? No one know for sure. Well, for one thing, Israel never has received all of the land God promised to them in Genesis 15:18-21; 17:7, 8. They only inhabited about 10% of what was given to them. Therefore, I believe that most of those ancient promises will be fulfilled during the final 1,000 years, when Jesus rules and reigns on this present earth.

Then another thought is that God wants to prove, to mankind and to angelic beings (both good and evil), how great everything would have been if nations and societies had been run according to His laws and rules. All misbehavior, crimes, and transgressions would have been exposed and dealt with immediately and swiftly, as they will be during the Millennium.

Also, at the beginning of the Millennium, Satan will be dumped into the Abyss, where he will remain for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1, 2). Thus, he will not be around to tempt humankind during that time. This will demonstrate to everyone that Satan wasn't/isn't the source of our sin problem; rather, our fallen, corrupt nature itself is the cause.

2. Your question was...........
"Why would the Lord rule from His `footstool`& not from His eternal throne? (Isa. 66: 1)."

Zechariah 14:4.........
"And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south."

Psalms 135:21.........
"Blessed be the LORD out of Zion, which dwelleth at Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD."

3. Your question was...........
"Why would the Lord rule over the universe, angelic hosts & the glorious realms above from this speck of dust? "(Ps. 68: 17)

The verse you used is not about the millennial dispensation AT ALL. It is specifically a reliving of the Exodus and the conquest of Cannan. God has clearly chosen Israel as His home from which He protects His people as Isreal is Hios chosen people.

4. Your question was.........
Why would the Lord rule from this physical earth with all its frailties, when He has a glorious body made for the realms above? (Rev. 1: 13 – 18).

Because He has the rule and authority over both the church and the world. Christ is the Creator and He can do whatever He wants to do. We, just like Him will have bodies capable to coming and going to heaven and earth as we chose to do so. There will be humans living on the earth at that time and He will show them how life could have been if man had accepted Him when He came the 1st time.+

5. Your question was..............
"Why would sickness, death & rebellion etc exist on this earth if the Lord was here in person? (Isa. 65: 20 Zech. 14: 17 – 19)".

Didn't all those things exist when he came to earth the 1st time? Isa 65:20 says.....
"There shall be NO MORE thence an infant of days, NOR an old man that hath not filled his days, for the child shall die a hundred

6. Your question was................
"Why would the Lord at the end of the Millennium be physically in Jerusalem, surrounded by Satan & the world`s armies?"

Because HE is the Judge of all men. Believers who live through the Tribulation will go into the Millennial period as humans and they will produce children. Those children will be unsaved and unregenerate and will be born with a sin nature. WHEN Satan is released (Rev. 20:7) He will temp those people and they will rebel against Christ. Isaiah 60:1-22 and Zech. 14:1-20 describe the "beloved city" as Jerusalem as the Throne of Christ from which He shall rule.

WHY????? Because He can.

Answer me this question. How can Jesus Christ be seated in the heavens on the right hand of God right now, and yet he lives inside me at the same time?
How can the Church today be living in physical bodies on this earth, and yet at the same time be sitting in heavenly places in Christ? Once you figure this out you will have your answer.

Good comment!

Of course Jesus is on earth when He rules from Jerusalem in the Millennium. That is His time to be the earthly King. It's all scriptural, and there should be no misunderstanding it. It is one promised era of 1000 years out of eternity.

Jesus will sit on the throne of DAVID.

Isaiah 9:7
There shall be no end to the increase of His government and of peace,
[He shall rule] on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From that time forward and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.

Isaiah 16:5
A throne will be established in lovingkindness,
And One will sit on it in faithfulness in the tent (dynasty, family) of David;
Judging and seeking justice
And being prompt to do righteousness.

Luke 1:32
He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

Hi @CCW95A,

Good question there bro. Jesus lives inside me as He said by His Holy Spirit. And He, Himself in His glorified body is seated at the right hand of the Father in the highest heaven. So are you telling me that the Lord by His Holy Spirit will be ruling through Israel in the Millennium? If you are then I would agree. I do not believe, however that the glorified Lord, sovereign ruler over all will be physically staying on the earth to rule. And that is what this topic is about.

The Lord God does not have a "physical" body, but supernatural spiritual body. So, yes he (Jesus) will be reining in his spiritual body, while at the same time never leaving his Father.

1Co 15:44.. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
