Are we equal

Being a team player... What sports is supposed to teach us is that the whole does better when each member does his part. As fans, we may hold an individual as a key member, but the best teams have great dedicated players in all positions. Our star loving point of view tends to color our assessment in all areas and differes from the Lord's.

The Lord's point of view values each of us individually. There is not a hierarchy of believers with committed men of GOd at the top and lesser believers below. From His point of view the quality of an individual is more concerned with whether that person is doing the Lord's will, irrespective others.

In military terms, a general is nothing without committed troupes. An individual soldier is made effective by the Officers he follows.

Do not be too concerned with your own perspective except that it is a perspective of following Him. Be a team player by committing to follow Him.
Thank you Siloam but all is well.

I think with the sports thing the term is 'equal playing field'. eg. the ground is completely flat, so that no side has an advantage over the other.
The team analogy doesn't really apply as long as there are enough people to make up a team, you can play. I think there will always be people of differing abilities, so we tend to 'play to our strengths'.

On my travels I went up to a lookout point and had a great view over the town and surrounding countryside. The people living at the very top of the hill usually are wealthier than the ones living below - the houses are bigger and flashier. In sports arenas those that get the box seats also get the better and more comfortable view. I can see how living the high life might make people think they are above it all!

Correct!

Weakest link in a chain comes to mind.

The Lord distributes different gifts to support His plan for us. When we employ His gifts within His will, His kingdom benefits.

On the team does not mean interchangeable. Supporting positions are what enables flashy scorers.

The scorer is not greater than the supporting players. And it is often the coach that chooses the players, builds the team, gets the most out of each and makes the whole successful.

Ah, but the most fertile crop-lands are often the 'bottom' lands along streams!

Which shows our assessments are not always the most fundamental.

Excellent observation.

Having played a lot of football, I can promise you that every coach I played for went out of his way to find men who could block for a running back.
There thinking was..........anybody can run with a rock, but a team has to open the holes to run through.

Hi Lanolin;

Wade was Henry Wade, the district attorney was the defendant who challenged the Supreme Court's decision in legalizing abortion in 1973.
Is there a book or website that explains this case? I'm always hearing people reference Roe vs Wade whenever the subject of abortion comes up and never really know what actually happened. I wasn't around in 1973! Plus I'm not American so don't know if the same kind of thing happened in NZ.

What a weird case.
Wikipedia doesn't really tell you much about the case itself. I need more details.
21 Year old Norma McCorvey found out she was pregnant with her third child, wanted an abortion, but couldn't have one in her state. Her life was not in danger, so she lied and said she was raped?

Then it was taken up to the supreme court.

She ended up having the child, which was put up for adoption.

Questions - where was the father? WHY did she want an abortion?
What happened to her two other children?
What happened to her child that was put up for adoption?

Looking up her wikipedia entry reveals that she was a ward of the state, parents both alcoholics and died young. She identified as lesbian, and depressed and unemployable, and her partners were abusive. She got in trouble deliberately for attention. She converted and it seems took it a back again on her deathbed?? Claims she was paid by evangelicals to spread anti-abortion message.

She also wrote two memoirs 'I am Roe' and 'Won by Love'

It's sad, Lanolin;

In America our "rights" are abused by hiding behind them because of sinful choices. I can go on and on, but at this moment our country needs prayer in accord with the world.

As far as the father, I don't know.

I am Roe was written in 1994
Won by Love in 1997

It seems she converted in 1995. She became a Catholic. Interesting.

She had been raped before by her cousin and was married and divorced at 16, as her husband assaulted her.
Her mother looked after her children, by then she was drinking and drugs. Her mother was also alcoholic. Her father died when she was 13...

So anyway. I don't know if her children have ever spoken about it.
Possibly the father was her ex-husband. She lied and said BLACK men raped her (she was white) as if that somehow makes it a reason for abortion...?!

Hmm seems to me...alcohol was a factor...as it seems to me in MOST tragedies.

Ok reading again her dad didn't die but LEFT the family at 13 but her mum took to drink after the divorce. And then Norma's husband was also assaulting her which I don't think a husband would do if he was sober.

Her father died in 1995. But weird thing is her children were adopted by her alcoholic mother. Not the divorced dad (was he sober?)

Nope. It seems by several sources that the conversion was a "con job".

Roe v Wade plaintiff admits abortion rights reversal ‘was all an act’ in new film | US news | The Guardian

1st Timothy 6:10........

“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

When I was young my parents treated both their sons (and our sister) with great love.

There were times when one or more of us accused them as being unfair and favoring one or another (they weren't).

I can remember on time at Christmas when after exchanging gifts and we were being very happy and grateful. My very well meaning mother was concerned that I might be envious of what my older brother received (which was new quality tires for his first car). So she told me that my gifts cost as much as my brothers. In my mind the gifts had been thoughtfully selected but then I became concerned that I only received them to balance what they selected for my brother. Silly me.

The point is that equal is not necessarily the thing to be desired. To be valued for ones self from the beginning of self and not compare our gifts with those of our brothers.

I have others sources on the wiki say her conversion was genuine and the pro-choice pressure was the con job. So jury is out on that one.

Wow I don't remember being given any gifts by my mother. She always cooked though. Later she gave us all money but it would always be the same amounts - as far as I know.

If we wanted gifts usually we would write down exactly what we wanted to receive (that's why we wrote letters to santa) so there was never any 'she or he got more' fighting as mostly asked for different things. God usually gives us what we ask for, if we don't ask, we don't receive.

But tires are really BIG!
