Are Women Pastors Biblical???

It is not my intention to cause an argument or division among the faithful with that question just discussion in a Christian and civil manner.

I have always simply posted the Word of God as it is written. I post this question in order to properly attempt to teach the Word of God....PEROID!

1 Timothy 3:1-2.........
"This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 2A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach".

According to the written Word of God, a Pastor can only be a "Male/Man".

Now, before anyone argues that point or disagree with me, remember that the "One" who said..."In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" also was the "One" who said......
"if a "MAN" desire the office of a bishop".

The old Major did not have anything whatsoever to do with what Jesus Christ placed into the Word of God. The old Major just reads it and accepts it as it is written so your disagreements will be with Christ and not me!!!!

Now the question must be WHY would God do that?

1 Timothy 2:13-14 .....
"For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression."

It’s important to understand that Paul does not prohibit women from teaching in all contexts (Titus 2:3; Acts 18:25-26), only from teaching the Bible to men in the church.

Notice that Paul prohibits women from doing two distinct things.

1.
Women may not teach the Bible to men in the church.
2.
Women may not exercise authority over men in the church.

Teaching and exercising authority in the church are the two primary responsibilities of elders, pastors, or bishops. Thus, women are not to hold the office of pastor, but neither are they to perform these particular functions of a pastor over men in the church.

Again, for the inquisitive minds the question is still...WHY is that the case.

I will give you what I think is the reason behinds God's direction.

1.
The creation order is the first reason Paul gives for prohibiting women from teaching or exercising authority in the church
.
Paul doesn’t ground his command in cultural considerations or a particular problem with the women in the Ephesian church. Rather, he grounds his command in creation. He says that the reason women are not to teach or exercise authority over men in the church is that....
“Adam was formed first, then Eve”. Paul means that God established Adam as the head and authority of his wife, Eve. God designed men to lead.

2.
The nature of women is the second reason Paul gives for prohibiting them from teaching or exercising authority in the church.
Paul says, “Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor” (1 Tim 2:14). Paul is saying something about the natural constitution of men and women, that men as a class are naturally more fitted to teach and have authority in the church, but women are not.
Dr. Wayne Grudem says, “This is by far the most common viewpoint in the history of the interpretation of this passage” (Evangelical Feminism & Biblical Truth 70).

Am in total agreement with you on this. Why? Because----It is scriptural....nothing else matters to me as your sister in Christ. I had too much false indoctrination and brain-washing in my younger years.
(Just to clarify, I am the one who was a former nun, then married and lost my husband of 55 yrs. recently)

Isn't it a blessing at our age to read the Word of God and apply it tour lives instead of the dogmas and traditions of men????

Indeed it is!! I don't live by any other label but "Child of God" and scripture is my learning book.
Because of so much brain-washing (to list a few) ---"Being a nun is the only way to heaven" (lol--that leaves you out major)...."in order for a Catholic to be saved, "You must attend 3 Masses every Sunday" (lol--that left out the Pope and 99.9% of Catholics). "Burn that rose petal NOW---Yesterday, I saw Jesus in it but today, Satan has decided to put his face in it"....."Wear blue everyday in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary".
(I always did what I was told to do---including all of the above) until I began to ask myself if I was insane, or the family member giving me those commands was??? The emotional damage was beyond repair, until I read all of scripture and couldn't find those things mentioned. I learned to pray for the sick mind that put me through that and asked God to send His Holy Spirit my way.

Hello Major;

I wanted to blue-light your conviction and appreciate the manner you're presenting in this thread with Scripture. Of course I'm going to respond because this is an ongoing discussion in the ministry I serve today.

But in order to discuss this topic, it's important that as disciples of the Bible we understand the exegesis, which is the careful study of the Scripture and it's intended meaning.

Many times when we overlook the original intent of the Word, it becomes challenging to distinguish between God's ordained roles of men and women in Scripture and understanding the "attitudes, trends and customs" of culture in the Old and New Testaments including these times.

I'm encouraging all of us to be prayerful when reading this topic, including all topics here at Christian Forum Site. Please refer to the Scriptures before posting and hopefully this topic will help us to learn and bond closer together as One continued Body in Christ.

God bless everyone and thank you.

Well I’m not sad that God prefers men teachers.

God granted us women to have faith in you men to be good teachers and role models.
That’s a honour methinks.

Hello Via;

I respect your position and there is so much more we should reflect on;

In Judges 4 when Deborah became the forth and only woman Prophetess. She was a strong leader and refuted glory to Barak the warrior because he would not go into battle unless Deborah went with him.

In Ruth, Naomi witnessed Ruth to accept the one True God who would later bless and honor her with the birth of Obed and added to the Genealogy of Jesus Christ.

In Matthew 28 Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were the first humans to see Christ after He resurrected.

In Acts 1 Mary the mother of Jesus ministered to her sons including James at the first church gathering in the Upper Room. At first James didn't believe in Jesus as the Messiah but converted to Christianity and would later write the book of James in the New Testament.

Women in the Bible were importantly anointed by God in many other significant roles.

I am very aware of what you went through. I have produced several papers on the Catholic faith. Because of the rules of this site we can not discuss those fallacies. I wish we could but may I say to you that better late is a lot better than never!!!!

Via.....it is not that God prefers men teachers. Women are wonderful teachers and in a lot of instances they are better then the men are. However that is not the point.

In reality, if it were not for the women in the church....there would not have been a church at all. Women took care of babies and children.
Women did cooking and cleaning. They are and still are indispensable.

The point is that in the beginning, it was the woman who gave in to the deception of Satan. At that point God placed here under the authority of the man. The man then became responsible and God decided that she would not be in a position to reach the man as it would place the woman in a position of authority over the man.

Now I realize that is not what is popular in modern society. There are TWO answers to that problem.

1. God does not care what feminists today think about what He has decided.
2. I agree with God.

The key here to your life is what I have preached now close to 50 years......"Read the Bible"!

When we actually read what the Bible says, the Holy Spirit opens our eyes and all of a sudden we realize that what we have been told is not in the Bible at all.

What a joy and relief living life then becomes when we are not encumbered with the traditions of men hanging over our heads.

God bless sister!

There are many amazing women in the Bible and in the world today. When you read of the Proverbs 31 women it's clear that women are to be much more than maids and servants.

In Proverbs 31:
This women is shrewd in her purchases buying the finest materials and high quality foods
She buys and sells land
Takes care of the household
She's a business woman sourcing quality merchandise and selling quality handmade goods
She performs acts of charity
Her husband is well known in high places because of the efforts of his wife
She is well educated and speaks with much wisdom

Women are capable to lead and I believe they can have the qualities needed of a minister, but

God though has decided in his word that women should not be ministers.

Wow, I visited another place where some very "supposedly" intelligent people were unable to handle the truth of God's word. Now I am learning why the truths of God that I accept are not easily swallowed by many and become a stumbling block of confusion, when being read by new Christians. Moderators have to pick and choose what is best left or removed--not an easy job.

Yes.

I have learned over the years on the internet forums that there are some very well educated people in Bible theology. I have also observed that the opposite also just as true.

Hear is the key. There are lots of "religious" people who know more about what their denomination has taught them than they do the actual Word of God.

Amen to that. My background led me to study God's word deeply to prove all things.

Studying God's word and praying for understanding are important if we are to truly going to come to understand God's will. The Holy Spirit leads us to the truth, then we must drink of it and let it become part of us by meditating and acting on it.

I really hate to say this but......my experience over the last 20 years of internet interaction is that if you want to see what Christianity is........
Do not expect to see it from the majority "Christian" forums.

I would say that this site here that we are on now is an exception to the rule, but most are nothing but people seeking to promote a "Persona Agenda"
which they have formulated out out of their own imaginations instead of the Word of God.

Anyone is free to change my mind!!!!!!

And that is exactly what the Scripture tell us to do...."Prove ALL things".

YES....and they often get highly insulted when this is pointed out to them even in the meekest fashion.
The only thing worse is what I did for umpteen years!! I was Miss Gullible and believed every word that a priest taught from the pulpit. I was taught to highly respect anyone with a Roman collar. A Bible never made its way into our home. So what in the world did I have the priests statements to compare to???
I look back now and think perhaps the absence of a Bible was intentional because had it been in the home I may have found contradictions to my brain-washing and taken a priest down from my imagined pedestal.
Nothing is worse than NOT knowing the truth of God's word, unless it is actually knowing it and twisting it to suit oneself. Would you believe that I had to walk away from it all to find truth in my late 30's?
