Do you use original languages in bible study and teaching?

I use the reverse interlinear tool on blueletterbible.com a lot. I also like that it does much of the parsing which also comes in handy when digging into the scriptures.

We should be thankful that with internet and bible software just about anyone can dig into the Hebrew and Greek texts well enough to learn something new!

I agree. Many do not have the ability in one way or another to go out and purchase the many resources available. Also there are those unaware of the resources available.

Thank God for this blessing.

The only real danger is that one can think there are "experts" now with using these resources, and still hard work to really learn and use Greek and hebrew!

I agree. Especially when someone does words studies without also coming to understand the grammar.

At times though there are nuances in the Hebrew and Greek words that just cannot be fully fleshed out in English translations!

I would agree but that is not the case with a few select. They change the whole government of God by changing or adding to one word …The #1 culprit is the world “apostle” which simply in English means "sent one" with no other meaning added .

.Sent one in the Hebrew is not left in its original the meaning is clear. One sent with the will of another

In that way if the word is used correctly Abel were the first recorded apostle as sent with and by God. And also Abel is the first witness that died serving the faith.as a martyr. The word martyr in that way is simply the word “witness” with no other meaning added .Saints that die are given a higher authority falsely by many .All believer die a witness to the work of Christ that does work in us. .. According to some an apostle is a word connected to a succession of a hierarchy of venerable men. (law of the fathers a pagan foundation ) The more power that they can add to word the better chance of mankind seeking their approval and not God who; lovingly commands us to study in order to seek His approval

The way many miss use the word apostle they simply are called an Abomination of desolation. Making the word of God without effect Its power to seek the approval of God is made desolate. A repeat performance of the garden of Eden. “You shall not surely die” look at me and live who needs to seek after the things not seen(faith)

There is Apostle of Christ, who were inspired to speak and write foreth theology, and apostles in the since of modern day missionaries!

No because I then have to learn the whole language and speak it as well, to get the meaning. I think it's easier with a good translation to get the Bible than confuse myself further.

What I do find good is to read about the culture and historical context of the Bible in those times and the land, customs, foods, etc. So learning how they lived in those times that the Bible was written.

I do have a lonely planet Hebrew phrase and dicitionary, but I haven't used it much. It's interesting to dip into now and then, but I find a good Bible Dicitionary can help me with unfamiliar words and phrases.

The New Bible Dictionary 3rd edition is a good one!

Sometimes only the original language can bring out a significant fact. When I was studying Hebrew in seminary, we translated the story of Joseph from the Hebrew. One thing I discovered was that Potipher was Pharaoh's "chief executioner" (head of security), and the title of Joseph's jailer was "chief executioner". This clarifies the relationship between Joseph and his jailer--the jailer was Potipher! Potipher had never believed his wife's charges against Joseph, but custom dictated that he take action against the accused slave.

Even in that was Providence, as Pharoah trusted in Potipher enough to allow him to spare Joseph life!

I don't teach (but wow there's a lot of teachers here!) But I do know Koine Greek can be taken in some colleges, my husband took classes when he was in college.

Might be a good thing to take some classes if your interested in learning from the original. While college itself can be pricy, just one class is usually more affordable, and many people will pick up a class or two just to continue learning even when they're older.

So it might be fun for you YeshuaFan, to check into some colleges near you and see if any offer Koine Greek.

(of course if you live in the middle of nowhere this is less of an option, but I don't know where you live.. lol)

I would offer. We are to call no man teacher on earth. One is our teaching Father as Lord and Master. . . . not seen .

Today with the click of a mouse a person can find the original meaning of words used in the Bible. Many words have had new meaning attached and change the course of the gospel. Different languages do not change the foundation of a word( singular) . There is not one dialect that rules above the whole. Some would say the Latin the dead language preserves the original thought of God. Some make a noise without meaning and fall backward slain in the Spirit and say it is proof that teaches the have the Holy Spirit .

Looking at culture time periods and fashions as oral traditions have no effect on hearing God. Hebrew or Greek both has meanings attached.

I have experienced just the opposite in some cases. Where using what some woruld call the fashion or cultural statement of the day makes the word of God without effect. The hair covering of glory a ceremonial law . Today its I have to get my hair and nails done. . making the shadow without effect.

No gospel understanding, hid from the lost in so much that the woman who are respresentive glory of man had her own part in the two part cerimony not leaving woman without her own representitive glory. If the man cover his head of hair or woman refuse to cover her temporal glory (hair) .Then again it makes the whole cerimony used to represpent the unseen Gloy of God without effect.

Study the original meaning of words then we can obey the commandment not to add new meaning to one word ( Plagerism) . Therefore violating the first comandment .Thou shalt not change the author of salvation .or have another interpreting spirit god before our living God and Holy teaching Father.

At the end of the book of prophecy it is sealed with 7 seals till the end of time . . another warning like Deuteronomy 4 is added in lieu of the whole , Do not add or subtract .Together they protect the integrity of God

Deuteronomy4: 2 Ye shall not add unto the word (singular) which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it(singular) , that ye may keep the commandments (plural) of the Lord your God which I command you.

Revelation22: 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words (plural) of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things,(plural) God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book( singular) And if any man shall take away from the words (plural) of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Problem is, they don't have the 'originals', only copies and fragments of early manuscripts. But compiling and comparing them, a study in itself, they have 99% certainty that they are that close to the 'originals'. (unless you take the opinions of liberal theologians).

Yes... I go with the certainty - I'm not uncertain in the least. :)

Yes, as believe the current take is that in the latest Critical Greek text are 99.33 % of the Originals!

Biblical Hebrew is more difficult than Koine Greek because there are a lot fewer cognates to help with vocabulary memorization. However, it's well worth the effort to learn it. For example, it wasn't until I learned Hebrew that I discovered Joseph's master and jailer was the same person--Potipher. That makes clear some significant facts in the unfolding of events and shows that Potipher didn't believe his wife.

My senoior pastor had 4 years of both Greek and Hebrew in Semonary, and thinks Greek easier to start, but Hebrew actually easier once hurdle of strangeness overcome!
