The eatery and the drinkery

In a minor way. I use saccharine in Coffee, and cereal, etc. On the other hand, Starches, and Carbohydrates break down into sugars when digested. So a diabetic diet is good for Coronary artery disease folks also (I'm a type 2 diabetic, and shoot insulin every night to keep my A1C around 7).

Depends - one of the folks I worked with was pitching a softball game, and suddenly woke up in the ICU AFTER his quad bypass. In my case, I had symptoms (angina pectoris) for well over a year, and didn't recognize them as Heart issues, until they suddenly got worse one morning. It's a bad sign when the paramedics know you by name -

NOW (after 13 attacks - as confirmed in each case by the presence of the "troponin" enzyme in the blood) I know when I need to call 911. The first time, I didn't really know what was going on. My Wife looked at my color, and recognized that it was something serious - so we quickly ran down to the E-Room at the local hospital. I was getting ready to fly to Cleveland that morning, so she probably saved my life -

MOST heart attacks tend to happen around 3:00 A.M. and so you wake up in pain (angina), and have to decide that IT'S TIME for the ambulance (because the pain can suddenly go into unconciousness, which wouldn't be good if you were driving).

They say that the BEST THING to do is COUGH VIOLENTLY (which acts like a chest compression). Of course if you're unconscious, then CPR would be good if your heart stops. Nobody in my house would have a clue how to do it, though.

I don't know - My attacks were not "Massive", and I carry Nitroglycerin with me all the time - in case.
Good to know..
Question- so would you tell the person having a heart attack to cough?
And what does nitroglycerin do?

At what age did you start having these heart troubles? You reckon it's not really anything to do with diet then. Though diabetes probably is.

Dallas is pretty much back to normal, and you don't see too many masks anymore. I never took any particular precautions, and have been going to eat-in Restaurants for most of 2020 as soon as they opened up for business again.

I'm a creature of habit, and have about a dozen different places that I go for lunch at work, and for dinner with my wife. I'm a FISH fancier (not Catfish) and generally go with that when it's offered, but I also like the Asian style buffets where I can stuff myself with Salmon, whitefish, shrimp, oysters and the like. taste is more important than ambiance which is more expen$ive. And of course in Texas, there's always Barbeque. My wife is an excellent Italian Cook, and so I get pasta dishes at home. My wife prefers the Chop Sueys, and Chow Meins (which you can't find in Texas, generally, but are common on the east coast).

After my first heart attack, I RELIGIOUSLY stuck to a low Cholesterol, low fat diet (as instructed).

After my second heart attack, is got a little less "religious", and after my 6th heart attack, I became a total atheist diet-wise, and eat what I want.

Then I found out that the "Medical truth du jour" is that dietary cholesterol isn't important, and it's SUGAR to causes plaque in Arteries. maybe - maybe not. the medical community doesn't REALLY know as much as they'd like you to believe they do.

SO after 13 heart attacks, two open hearts, a Rotoblator procedure up my "widowmaker", and 21 stents, I'm eating what I feel like eating, whenever I feel like eating it, and my heart attacks stopped happening about 8 years ago (Plavix seems to be good medicine).

My goodness!

I do not recall knowing anyone who is living with that many problems! God bless you and I know that yu are blessed and glad to be saved.

If I were you I would be real careful in using my computer brother!

As a First action before calling 911. Also taking an aspirin (Blood thinner) right away is a good move, and if you have Nitroglycerine - take one sublingual right a way, and another every 5 minutes if need be. It's a GOOD idea to call 911, because Chest pain can turn into a SERIOUS Heart attack quickly, and the paramedics can take appropriate action on the road, which you Can't do in your car -
And what does nitroglycerin do?
It dilates the blood vessels, enhancing the Blood flow to the heart. The PAIN (angina pectoris) isn't the heart (which can't feel pain) - it's the muscles hurting because they're being starved for blood because of blocked arteries feeding the Heart. Nitroglycerine allows the Arterial muscles to relax and increase the blood flow artificially (lasts for about 20 minutes). Bottom line: IF you have chest pain, and Nitroglycerine makes it go away immediately - then until proven otherwise, you've got heart problems. Get to the E-room - NOW!!!!
At what age did you start having these heart troubles?
About late in my 48th year, I began experiencing symptoms, which I didn't recognize as Heart issues. late in my 49th year, they finally came to a head, and when the quad bypass was over, I found that the back 1/3 of my heart was dead (the best part of the heart to lose if you're going to lose some of it).
You reckon it's not really anything to do with diet then. Though diabetes probably is.
About 8-10 years before the first attack, the doctor commented that my triglycerides were very high, and that was a "warning sign" for heart issues. Triglycerides ARE dietary AND Exercise related, so there is a "Lifestyle" contribution, but also heredity contributes. My Father was also hypertriglyceridemic. And a heart attack took him out at 86. He wasn't diabetic, though although one of my sons is, and I am (both type 2). I shoot insulin every night, but my younger son doesn't - yet. We're both about 50 pounds overweight, and NOBODY in my family is athletic..

er..I did a first aid course on Monday as all the teachers were doing it and, nothing was mentioned about coughing for people having heart attack, but we did get shown CPR and how to use a defibrillator.

But that's only if you go unconscious.
Otherwise we meant to place you in recovery position ( in america, it's called side stable position, because someone did that in the US, and the person DIDN'T recover, so they sued) and call for ambulance.

our number is 111 but some people watched too much American tv and were ringing 911 instead. So now they've made it if you dial 911 it automatically gets diverted to 111.

We also learned what to do if anybody is choking. Slap your back 5 times and then your sternum. Don't do the heimlech maneuver cos that ruins all your soft internal organs.

I don't quite understand why people over eat when they know it's really bad for them. But then a lot of food given to people these days is rubbish. I mean today, the school lunches were cancelled because they weren't even cooked properly. We might have ended up with a lot of sick children had they eaten it. The teachers decided they would order hot chips for the classes instead.

This is what you get when people skimp on providing food. Yes school lunch is free for us but what a waste when they don't even cook it properly! You can't ask that children survive on tasteless and cold food all the time. Meals aren't worthwhile when they are cold in winter and lack nutrition and vitamins.

People can't just live on tea and sugar. But that's what most workers are given in workplaces as there's no budget for anything else. The only other time I've been fed at work as part of the job (not just a special occasion meeting/birthday or morning tea) was when I worked in a restaurant or on a film set, where it's all catered for every single day.

The NZ pie awards were announced and the winner was mince and cheese from a bakery in Torbay. (North Shore of Auckland)

Nothing beats a good meat pie!

Hm. In my country (well, most Latin countries) we have these met pastries we call "empanadas." I think this is a version of what you all call a meat pie. Our version also include ham, chicken, pork, etc.

Those look rather good. I've tried a number of meat pies and I may have ate one of these as well at some point.

We are blessed with a number of good eating places in our general area though it has been quite some time since we have been out to eat.

I know what you mean on both counts.

Here in Miami, because of tourism, we have restaurants that petty much represent the entire eating world. And, for obvious reasons, we have a great deal of sea good restaurants. Our favorite is actually a sea good market with a restaurant attached. It takes a little getting use to the aromatic stimulation, but the food was great.

The wife and I, after over a year of not going out to dinner, went there about 1 year ago (for our anniversary) . It was ok, but eating while people are walking around in masks is a bit odd. At the time, I believe we were sing an average of 1,106 positives a day. Now, almost 1 year later, our daily average is a little over 2,800 a day. I think we will hand out in the back yard for our anniversary, which is actually a couple of weeks away.

Last week we took a young couple who started going to our church out to dinner. I ordered an old fashioned spaghetti and meatballs with a side of garlic bread. The portion was large and they threw in an extra meatball for me. I had a diet coke and though I shouldn't have, it was a delicious combination for me.

I have to be careful what I eat these days because I get heartburn. I take Pepcid AC and one tablet works for 24 hours. But the spaghetti dinner gave me no after dinner problems.

Went out with friends yesterday for a friend's birthday lunch.
It was an Italian restaurant and all of us ordered seafood chowder, cos it was a cold day. It came with herbed bread. And the waiter DIDNT offer us cold water lol. We ended up not ordering any extra pizza although a friend got garlic bread, though I don't understand why she brings water in a plastic bottle with her everywhere she goes. Maybe cos she has to take medication, I don't know.
Then for dessert I had a lava cake, its like a chocolate cake with gooey choc inside, and cream and jam as topping.

It was very nice. Originally was going to have yum cha, but if was only 3 of us, I thought it probably won't be worthwhile. Yum cha is best with 6 or more people at a table lol. The restaurant was up the road from me, but I do remember when it was originally a Pizza hut. Now there are no more Pizza Hut restaurants they only do takeaways.

We have a bunch of people here that carry their own water supply, but not out of plastic. We have these things called Yeti. I've seen people carry the one-gallon jugs. I think a 32 ouncer is just fine. Were it not for this, I would probably not drink water for days (unless you count coffee or tea).

I had a yummy mushroom pizza today and a hot brownie. I go pick up pizzas for my readers every Thursday.
There's just something about pizza that makes it the perfect food to satisfy an empty stomach.

I often wonder what manna was like for the Israelites, was it like pizza?

Pizza and brownies. The eyes and mouth say yes please, but the mind bulks a little. It is trying to tell me hold on maybe that is not going to happen here. :(

Well after 5 weeks of quarantine we are finally allowed to get takeaways

I am hankering for some peri peri chicken.

Other people keep saying they want to have a decent coffee. I don't drink coffee, but I don't know if I'd go out of my way just to get a takeaway drink?! Can't people make coffee at home...?

Though that being said I don't make peri peri chicken at home. I had mixed up a supposedly KFC type seasoning, but mum said it didn't taste like KFC, and we don't have a pressure cooker to deep fry a chicken.

Otherwise, we have mainly been subsisting on baked beans.
