Revelation

Is Zech 14:8 talking GT or the Millennium Reign ?

Both. The earthquake will divide Jerusalem into 3 parts. It is my understanding that the river seen in the Millennium will come from that event.

Dallas Seminary’s Bible Knowledge Commentary---------
“Zechariah 14 progresses from the initial plundering of Jerusalem near the end of the future Tribulation, through the catastrophic judgment on the Gentile armies at Messiah’s Second Advent and the establishment of His millennial reign, to a description of the worship in Jerusalem during the Millennium. The fact that these events have not yet occurred points to a premillennial return of Christ, that is, His return before the Millennium.”

REVELATION 16:21..........
And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

This concludes the Great Tribulation Period!!! The seventh and final bowl judgment brings not only a devastating worldwide earthquake but also a crippling hailstorm.

"A Talent weight" = The Greek talent was 56 pounds and the Jewish talent was 114 pounds. So give or take a few pounds and you have hail about 9- to 100 pounds.

I have seen hail the size of a baseball here in Florida and on one of those occasions it destroyed our car. The heaviest recorded hailstone recorded in the United States weighed two pounds. That storm fell on South Dakota in 2010.

There is a Bible record of hailstorms in Joshua 10:11..........
"And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword."

Ezekiel 13:13 also associates hailstones with His wrath, stating,.............
"Therefore thus says the LORD GOD: I will make a stormy wind break out in my wrath, and there shall be a deluge of rain in my anger, and great hailstones in wrath to make a full end."

Exodus 9:25...........
"And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field."

Like Pharaoh, people struck by the 100-pound hail in the great tribulation period will refuse to repent. Instead, they curse God because of the hail. Once again, the human heart is seen as callous and desperately wicked.

According to the historian Josephus, the Romans catapulted stones into Jerusalem in 70 AD the weight of a talent.

Time frame is now.....Armageddon.

I've always thought the terminology, " in that day," usually refers to the Millennium or Judgment.

"In that day" is a relative term which is determined by the "Context".

For our conversation it should be noted that the major prophet Isaiah used the term "In the last day" the most and the CONTEXT of his prophecies were the last days.

Isaiah 2:10-12......
"Go into the rocks, hide in the ground from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty! 11The eyes of the arrogant man will be humbled and the pride of men brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. 12The LORD Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled).... ".

Isaiah 2:17-21..........
"The arrogance of man will be brought low and the pride of men humbled; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day, 18and the idols will totally disappear. 19Men will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth. 20In that day men will throw away to the rodents and bats their idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made to worship. 21They will flee to caverns in the rocks and to the overhanging crags from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth. (Isaiah 2:10-12,17-21).

It seems to me to me that Isaiah's words are seen in Revelation 16:12-17..............
"And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. 16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. 17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done."

So, the Lord Almighty has "a day reserved for all the proud and lofty" (Isaiah 2:12), often referred to as "that day," which will follow the events of the 6th Seal.

Nice this also goes hand-in-hand with Isa 2:10-12

Revelation 6:16 KJV
[16] And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

Isaiah 2:10-12 KJV
[10] Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty. [11] The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. [12] For the day of the Lord of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

Although one seems to be the unbelievers speaking and the other is where the Lord is speaking to believers.

REVELATION 17:1
And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:

Chapters 17 & 18 are "Parenthetical". They both are EXPOSITIONS of two Scriptures we have had and I said then we would discuss them later. Later is now!

1. Chapter 17 will explain Revelation 14:8. It reveals the design that God will use to destroy "Mystery Babylon" which is the religious system that will be in power during the Tribulation Period.

2. Chapter 18 explains Revelation 16:19. It reveals the design of the Mystery Babylon's capital City.

Who is this "prostitute"???? Not known.

Some say this points to Rome, meaning Catholicism. Others identify Jerusalem, meaning Judaism. However, this symbolic prostitute is probably an incorporation of corrupt religions. Some commentators suggest an end-times union of apostate Protestantism and apostate Roman Catholicism, or a blend of world faiths into a single one-world religion. Others suggest this is a reference to a general, ungodly humanistic version of spirituality.

I have already stated that I believe that when the Rapture removes all the Christians......what is left will come together as a great assembly of "religiously" lost people governed by the state.

REVELATION 17:2
With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

By understanding the "basis" for this MYSTERY RELIGION today, we can see how it will be possible for it to be in charge during the coming years. Allow me to list several items that will help our understanding...........

1. This religious system is likened to a great whore = someone who sells herself for profit or gain.
2. It has influence over many people, nations and tongues.
3. It is involved in an unholy union with kings of the earth.
4. It is poisoned the people of earth and they are drunk with her influence.
5. The system is a leader in politics.
6. It is rich.
7. It is actually corrupt, and filthy.
8. This system is responsible for the deaths of approx. 50 million people in the name of religion.
9. This system is associated with a great city.
10. This system has its roots in ancient Babylonian Mysteries.

Now....what is BABYLON'S History?????????

1. It was built by Nimrod in Genesis 10. "NIMROD" in Hebrew = a hunter of men's souls.
2.
Nimrod led his people in rebellion against God......politically.
3. Babylon was the seat of the 1st great apostasy.
4. Nimrods wife was SEMIRAMIS and she led the people in rebellion to God...........spiritually.

Eusebius—a well-respected ancient biblical scholar and historian—identifies Semiramis as the wife of Nimrod. Based on a combination of all these assumptions, countless other historians and scholars have written volumes about Semiramis. There is nothing in the Scriptures to detail her so what I post comes from world history and ancient history found in secualr books and can be questioned for authenticity.
From those records we see that she was...........

1. A Prostitute.
2. Beautiful
3. Powerful.
4. A Witch.
5. A High Priestess.
6. Wife of Nimrod
7. Mother of TAMMUZ.
8. also known as Ishtar and Isis.

She declared that she had been visited by the spirit of Nimrod, who left her pregnant with the boy. She maintained, was Nimrod reincarnated. With a father, mother, and son deified, a deceptive, perverted trinity was formed.

Semiramis and TAMMUZ were worshipped as "Madonna and child." As the generations passed, they were worshipped under other names in different countries and languages. Many of these are recognizable: ....
Fortuna and Jupiter in Rome; Aphrodite and Adonis in Greece; and Ashtoreth/Astarte and Molech/Baal in Canaan.

Babylon was more than just a city. It symbolized a political and religious system which has never died and is the root of the worlds problems today.

1. Babylon represents Satan's program throughout the ages as opposed to God's program.
2. Babylon was the fountain head of idolatry and the mother of every heathen and pagan worship systems in the world.
3. The Babylonian religious has been propagated throughout the world and is still with us today.

Babylonianism spreads world wide and has different names in different cultures. Images of MOTHER and CHILD were all over the world where the Babylonian empire ruled.

1. In Egypt the Mother and Child was called..........................ISIS.
2. In Greece they were called........................................................Aphrodite.
3. In Italy they were called..............................................................VENUS.
4. In Turkey they were called.........................................................ISHTAR
5. In Medo-Persia they were called.............................................EROS

The beliefs of Ancient Babylon were (still are)...........

1. The birth of TAMMUZ was a miracle as his mother (Semiramis) was a virgin.
2. Worship was to the mother and the child.
3. Eggs were used in worship to show "Being born again".........= Reincarnation.
4. Rabbits were used to symbolize reproduction and proliferation.
5. Rabbits were a sign of good luck.
6. There was a "place" where the dead went to wait of them to be released.
7. Salvation was by sacraments such as priestly absolution.
8. Cleansing was done by the sprinkling of "holy water".
9. There was a dedication of virgins to the gods for the cleansing of the soul = Legal Prostitution.
A. Plato encouraged this practice 2000 years later by telling people to go to the Temple of Diane and have sex
with a temple prostitute so that their soul would be cleansed.
10. Celibacy was instituted in the high priests so as to cover homosexuality that was practiced.
11. Confessions were instituted but they were used as a means of blackmailing the people.
12. The official way of punishment for crimes was........"Crucifixion".
13. In worship services to her son "TAMMUZ"...the sign of the "T" was cut into the chest of the infant baby to be sacrificed by fire
and its hearts was removed.
A. Throughout the Tanach, there are many references to a rite named Molech, which involved passing children through fire, with
many warnings from God to not observe it. That was the practice of the Canaanites when Israel came into the land.

NOW..........from my past in teaching this, I realize that many of you have just taken a deep breath and said.........I had no idea.
Please encourage you to do the work and study and prove all things. It just is not that hard to do now with a computer.
It is a lot to absord and I am sure that some of you are saying..........All of that sounds like the Catholic Church today!!!!
Yes it is, but there is more...........

14. The practice of "Transubstantiation" also began in Babylon.= their god could change one substance to another substance.
15. The temple priests claimed to have magical powers that allowed them to change their great SUN god into a wafer.
16. Then in a religious ritual, the faithful would eat their god to nourish their soul.
17. The wafer was round to copy the appearance of the Sun and had the letters I....H...or S on it.

REVELATION 17:3-7........
So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns."

This figure represents an ungodly approach to religion and spirituality, as Scripture often uses the concept of sexual sin as a parallel to spiritual infidelity. The imagery here is meant to be seen just that way: as symbols.

The Mingling of Babylonianism and Christianity:

1. Now that we have identifies the Babylonian religion, how did it get into the Christian faith????

A. From Christs's resurrection in 33 AD until approx. 300 AD, Christianity had won the victory over paganism (Babylonianism in its
raw form)
B. Paganism had tried to stamp out Christianity but the more the persecution, the more it grew.
C. Persecution was not working so Satan came up with, "If you can't beat'm...join'm".
D. In 313 AD a new emperor came to power in Rome. Constantine! He realized that if the power of Christianity could be combined with the temporal power of the Roman Empire, the whole world could be conquered.
E. Under his direction, a truce was called. A courtship began and ended with the marriage of the Church and the State!
F. In 314 a call went out for an "Ecumenical Council" in Rome. This meeting had several ramifications.
1. Christ was removed as head of the Church.
2. Constitine was now placed as the head of the church or as we now it the POPE!
3. This was the beginning of the Roman Catholic Church.

Not ALL churches attended this meeting. One that did not was called "ANABAPTIST". An excellent book on this is "Trail of Blood".

Now comes the problem. The Romans had conquered the known world and FORCED the people who had been involved in Babylonian religion into Christianity. These people became dissatisfied and unwilling to go on. They were NOT changed or convicted in any way so they had NO desire to follow through.

So a 2nd Council was called to fix it. Several changes were made and then incorporated into the Christine doctrine to appease those Babylonian people. These were NOT Bible doctrines but were in fact "COMPROMISES" made to keep the peace.
Since the church had not been persecuted at that time, it actually seemed the right thing to do. Hence the beginning of compromise with the world led the church of Jesus Christ into Spiritual Idolatry.

Changes made at the 2nd council to appease the Babylonians were :

1. The practice of worship to Semiramis was changed to MARY.= Source =
2. She was declared to be the Queen of Heaven.
3. The Babylonian statue of Jupiter was renamed as "Peter". (https://ezinearticles.com/?How-the-Temple-of-Jupiter-Became-the-
Church-of-St-Peter&id=9751071)
4. Prayers for the dead was established.
5. The sign of the cross ("T") was established as a part of the allegiance.
6. The entire doctrine of Purgatory was established.
Source: John MacArthur, Exposing the Idolatry of Mary Worship: Catholic Dogma, Pt. 1

All of this is background on verses 1-7 and my aim is to help explain the "Mystery Babylon". Please do YOUR own study.

REVELATION 17:8
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

In this verse the angel identifies the scarlet beast and predicts its future. The beast supports the woman, this religious Babylon. This creature is said to have a known past, present, and future.

This description connects with the description found in Revelation 13:3 of the Antichrist having had a mortal wound that was healed. He arises from the bottomless pit, the location of demons, which points to his power as satanic.

In contrast, a few Bible teachers believe this description points to Judas Iscariot. I however am not one of those.

Another interpretation, which to me seems the best, is to apply the beast's past, present, and future tenses to the Roman empire that collapsed in the past, experienced a time of non-existence, and which will emerge in the tribulation as the Revived Roman Empire, finally destroyed when Jesus returns to earth.

According to Revelation 17:8 the whole world, with the exception of believers, will be astonished at the beast's revived presence and power.

REVELATION 17:9
And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

The city of Rome and Jerusalem sit on 7 hills.

The angel explained that the beast's seven heads are seven mountains. Many expositors attribute the seven mountains to the seven hills of Rome. Originally, Rome included seven hills on the Tiber River. These hills were named.......
1. Palatine,
2. Aventine,
3. Caelian,
4. Equiline.
5. Viminal,
6. Quirimal,
7. Capitoline.

Later Rome's territory included the hill Janiculum and another hill to the north.

If Rome is the city mentioned here as "the city of seven hills," in this verse, we might conclude that Rome is the beast's capital city. Or, as some do, that the religious power behind the Antichrist is connected to Catholicism.

It is unwise to be dogmatic about identifying the city of Rome as the beast's capital city, or a reference to a particular religion. Just as a mountain rises above its surrounding area, so an unrighteous king or ruler exalts himself above his subjects. Further, a mountain is strong and may represent a king's political strength. In the tribulation, the beast arises as a strong political figure who exalts himself to the point of declaring that he is God and demanding that people worship him (2 Thessalonians 2:3–4).

REVELATION 17:10-11
And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

There are SEVEN continents of the earth.

The seven heads of the beast (Revelation 17:3) are seven mountains, and these seven mountains are seven kings. The angel declares that five of them have fallen, one is alive, and the seventh king is yet to come. When he comes, his reign will be brief.

It has been an accepted teaching that this reference is to forms of government which dominated the Roman Empire. If this interpretation is correct, five of the forms of government had already fallen.

"Five are fallen" could and I believe does refer to FIVE past world kingdoms........
1. Egypt
2. Assyria
3. Babylon
4. Medo-Persia
5. Greece

"One is" = Rome at the time of John writing this book. Rome would then be the 6th kingdom.

"And the seventh is yet to come = The Revived Roman Empire will then be the 7th kingdom. That would then indicate that the 8th in verse 11 is the Antichrist.

They were kings, consuls, dictators, decemvirs, and military tribunes. A sixth form of government existed in John's lifetime: the imperial government under the Caesars. A seventh form of government, the Revived Roman Empire, would therefore lay ahead—as of the time John wrote these words—and would exercise control of multitudes of people in the tribulation.

Other interpreters identify the five fallen kings as ........
1. Augustus,
2. Tiberius,
3. Caligula,
4. Claudius, and
5. Nero.

They identify Domitian as the sixth king and the head of the Revived Roman Empire as the seventh. Others tag seven empires as the seven kings:

1. Egypt,
2. Assyria,
3. Babylonia,
4. Persia,
5. Greece,
6. Rome, and the
7. Revived Roman Empire as the seventh.

Again, given the symbolic and speculative nature of Revelation, it's important not to be overly dogmatic about any one specific viewpoint on this issue. Don't lose friends over the difference.

IMHO........the most likely interpretation of this passage is as a reference to the seventh form of Roman government, in this case the Revived Roman Empire which comes into existence at the beginning of the tribulation. Ten kings will govern this political structure, but the beast from the sea (Revelation 13:1), will succeed these kings and become the dictatorial head of the Revived Roman Empire.

This takeover will introduce the eighth form of Roman government. The eighth form of Roman government will end when the beast—the head of the Revived Roman Empire—is cast into the lake of fire at the hands of Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Revelation 19:20 says..........
"And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur."

REVELATION 17:12.............
And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

These are the same 10 horns of Daniel 7. They receive their power at the same time with a meeting with the Antichrist. and in 1 hour,
and they will share their authority with the beast.

Based on typical interpretations of this passage from several different scholars, and of the timeline of the tribulation, it seems the kings will govern a confederacy of ten states at the beginning of the tribulation. Likely, this confederacy will involve nations in Western Europe, which is territory once occupied by the Roman Empire.

If this is the case, those leaders will ratify a peace treaty with Israel during their rule according to 1 Thessalonians 5:1–3, before trouble emerges. Perhaps the confederacy fears the rise of militant Russia, and the situation becomes too complex for the ten kings to handle, so they unite with the beast. Together, the ten kings and the beast rule, but the union endures for only a brief time. While some Bible teachers try to identify the ten kings as successive rulers in the past, this verse identifies them as kings who rule together.

Several years ago it was thought that this might be the NATO organization of which the USA is part of. It very well may be however as of today there are 30 nations involved with 3 more wanting to join.

It is possible that a war with Russia will eliminate (Ukraine in view) several or maybe some will withdraw. Totally unknown at this point.

REVELATION 17:13-14
These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

No one has ever won a battle against God and no one ever will win a battle against Him.

Why do the kings show such antagonism against the Lamb? There are three plausible reasons:........
1. They are influenced by Satan.
2. They recognize that the Lamb has launched the judgments they have experienced.
3. They hate the fact that the Lamb's followers refuse to worship the beast.

The kings engage in battle against Christ at the end of the tribulation and will be destroyed by Jesus at His return to earth (Revelation 16:16; 19:17–21).

Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords and will carry this title on His robe and thighs when He defeats His enemies (Revelation 19:16).

Revelation 17:14 identifies those who accompany Jesus in His victorious battle against His enemies as "called and chosen and faithful." Jesus has called them to Himself, chosen them out of the world, and enabled them to be faithful.

REVELATION 17:15......
"And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues."

In case there is a misunderstanding of 17:1, Jesus gives us His interpretation. This "religious" syatem holds control over the whole world at that time.

The waters on which she sits = "peoples and multitudes and nations and languages."

Some identify this eclectic religious system as the culmination of the ecumenical movement after the Rapture of the born again believers. According to this view, apostate Protestantism, apostate Roman Catholicism, and all world religions will unite and exist as one in the tribulation. I as well ascribe to this view.

The apostle Paul advised Timothy in 1 Tim. 4:1-2............
"that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared".

The apostle John also predicted the rise of antichristian religion in 1 John 2:18. He wrote:........
"Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come."

Jude warned his readers that ungodly religious teachers had wormed their way into the church. He wrote in verse #4.......
"For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ".

Whether by combining all religions, the domination of a single false faith, the invention of a new one, or simply a widespread lack of spiritual truth, the apostasy that began in the first century will grow worldwide during the end times.

REVELATION 17:16
And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

Here God reveals the cause of Mystery Babylon's" destruction. When we get to chapter #18 He will give the details.

The ten kings and the beast, most likely the head of the Revived Roman Empire, will hate religious Babylon and will destroy her. The corrupt ecumenical system, therefore, will come to a sudden end.

Perhaps religious Babylon will receive too much loyalty and too much wealth to the liking of the beast and the ten kings. They want all the loyalty and resources for themselves. We know from chapter 13 that the beast demands worship of himself (Revelation 13:11–12), so he likely views religious Babylon as competition that he must destroy.

The destruction of religious Babylon probably occurs in the middle of the tribulation when the beast comes into power, assumes the role of God, and demands everyone to worship him. This suggests that the unspiritual, ungodly religious character of the world at the beginning of the tribulation will be gutted and destroyed by the coming of the Antichrist and his allies.

IF that is the case, then it gives more validation to the real born again believers being Raptured.

REVELATION 17:17...........
For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

This Scripture speaks volumes!!!! To me it is the key to understanding, not only the Revelation but all of history.

Through the actions of men, the will of God is fulfilled! THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A SECOND!.

REVELATION 17:18.............
And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

The great whore that instigates this Babylonian religion is a city that rules of the kings of the earth.

Is there a city like that today?

Rome
Mecca
Moscow
New York
Jerusalem
A New City Named Babylon.

This ends the 17th chapter and the "religious system". Next we will discuss the "CAPITAL CITY" itself and its destruction in the 18th chapter.
