Christians, guns, and self-defense

Or HER friends.
Our lives are on the line everyday. This doesn't equate with actively using carnal weapons to defend ourselves.

Jesus taught us to put on SPIRITUAL armour and use HIS word as a sword.

I finished reading a book about the New Zealand wars, largely forgotten now. But so many people died its not funny, and they didn't even really gain anything from it, because relations between Maori and Pakeha (British) still take a lot of work to sort out. Maori learned how to speak and read English, (kind of forced to) but many of the British didn't even bother to learn how to speak and read Maori.

There still hasn't even really been a Maori Prime Minister even though there are designated Maori seats, and prisons are full of mostly Maori. That is a real problem for both groups of people.

Anyway I am just putting it out there that guns didn't solve anything in that case. The New Zealand Wars were also known as 'the musket wars'...guns being called muskets back in the day, when the Maori first laid eyes on what they called 'shooting sticks' they really wanted them because they loved fighting. Often it was like sport to them. So they gave up a lot of land and goods in order to have them..they were like I don't know...a new video game or something.

But, the Brits also introduced Maori to the game of rugby. Which I think, while still being somewhat violent, is maybe a better way to fight over a ball than supply everyone with a lot of guns!!!

(Riots at rugby tours is another story I'll share another time)
This sort of "thing" happens way too often in this country. While I understand what the Bible says, I do not believe it is applicable to this type of evil. For this one, you can wear spiritual armor in addition to a Glock 27 with 15 round of 168 grain hollow point 9mm ammo.

Well you believe what you want RTM the only people getting rich are the people that make the weapons.

I bet they are laughing all the way to the bank preying on people's fears.
Like drug dealers, they don't particularly care about all the lives lost.

Yes, this would be right. "They" are the people "getting rich," because they are the people selling the product.

I do not know any of them personally, so I do not know how they feel about those who die because of guns. I suspect they feel the same way as those who make cars, knives, and tactical nuclear hand grenades.

Rtm

Probably the people that sell them don't have a conscience...

I recall when the church once let people sell fireworks in the church carpark in those pop up stands and they didn't think anything of it.
Though you aren't allowed to sell them to anyone under 14, but sellers don't care, they want to make a buck and it overrides any consideration for safety.

Well I pointed out to them hey, why are you letting vendors sell dangerous goods in a CHURCH carpark, just because they may give you money to set up a stand there. I questioned it. Are you going to police them to make sure they don't do anything stupid? Do you trust people just because they have money and can buy whatever they like? They earned it right?

They stopped it the next year.

there is a Big difference in selling fireworks at Church vs defending your life a friend of mine who lives in Scotland told me once she was scared to come to the united states .because of firearms. most gun crimes committed are not purchased in a store. granted there are some , but most are stolen weapons . owning a firearm comes with responsibility , my wife brother had buy a pistol and wanted strap it on. i told him if he pulled it be ready to use it.

myself i am all for firearm safety classes

She's too scared to come to the United states because everyone there has guns lol

Not because SHE doesn't have a gun. lol

She can always buy one right? They are easy to get.

I guess you guys are too blind to see the problem. And don't think that women can't shoot.

so you can still love your enemies even if they want to put a slug in your head . defend your self
yep thats what David Wilkerson did.
Although it wasn't a slug, it was a knife.

Then Nicky Cruz repented and became an evangelist himself.

Did you know that Corrie Ten Boom FORGAVE the prison guards that gassed her sister. She confronted them. They became christians.

Joan of Arc went into battle and basically told all of England to cease raping and pillaging France. She didn't have to chop off someone's head to do it. Just used her words and a banner.

I’m sorry but are you saying words and banners will end crime? If it were that simple, I’d think people would have figured that out by now.

lets see in my life time i had a cousin who was a bank president .while at his home eating dinner three men came to his door at gun point .took his wife his oldest daughter out in the country tied them to a tree . while he went to the bank with what he thought was a bomb attached to his chest . he got the money they took him out to where his daughter and wife was. all 3 shot and killed execution style . the oldest daughter knelt to pray. shot in the back of the head. the year was 1973 . the i had a cousin who was stabbed to death by her grandson. i am sure she pleaded with him. result was her death. a buddy of mine was shot a total 8 times by his step dad, of course they was drinking his senses was dulled plus he had his 8 year old son with him. had Kenny had his wits he would have took the gun away . possibly. being nice in violont places is not always the key . if your life is threatened with death and you have the means to take them out first do it .

So I will pray when we need to use these fire arms for self defense, that we are doing the right thing, and have great aim.
time is right when you have to protect your self .trust me there are some who dont need a firearm. around here most kids are raised around firearms and taught how to shoot and when. as per hunting and self defense comes with common sense

I live in the suburbs, if I lived in the country where there are hunting grounds, possibly would own a firearm, but here, there is no need.

For defence, people have hedges, fences and gates. Some have security alarms. I don't have one on my car I disabled the one it came with cos it was so annoying. If someone wanted to steal my car they would, But they don't because its not a flash car and doesn't go very fast. lol

People possibly need to be more aware of cyber-security (passwords, pins etc) and identity theft, which can be very damaging, more so than being shot. Plus, people can survive being shot if they are not fatally wounded, though it is hard to recover when your entire identity is stolen.

Like drug dealers, they don't particularly care about all the lives lost.

All people who sell products that are in demand make money.

THAT is called "Capitalism" and it is the tool that drives aall successful economies.

That is true for some people but certanily not all people.

I was reading a chapter book about a Maori community anyway what used to happen before Europeans came with their new fangled guns/muskets is they would fight each other using taiaha, or spears.

Though some would say they only use them to defend themselves rather than attack. But attacks were very common over land - there was never really any rhyme or reason why tribes fought each other (and they would eat their enemies! yep cannibalism was practiced).

I guess everyone wanted the best kumaras in the land. I don't know. Or the kumara wasn't growing, and they had run out of moa. People eating was more attractive!

Hello Lanolin;

The Maori were the indigenous people in New Zealand. The kumaras were a food, sweet potato? And the moa was a bird in New Zealand, and were they edible?

I'm trying to understand the connection between these three and how was this self defense?

God bless you and thank you, sister.
