Grace Is Not 'unmerited Favor'

Unmerited favor is a false gospel...

Jesus said grace is:

2 Co 12:9 and he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Jesus was not full of 'unmerited favor'- He was full of the Holy Ghost:

Luk 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

Grace is the transforming power of the Holy Spirit that teaches us how to live..

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

We are not saved by 'unmerited favor but by the washing and regeneration of the Holy Spirit:

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

The Greek word for Grace in the Greek New Testament(not the Websters dictionary) is 'charis'. The Greek definition for 'charis' is 'a divine influence upon the heart and the reflection in the life'... Unmerited favor will not save you. We are saved by the power of God....

Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

2 Co 12:9 nd he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

With the Holy Spirit comes love, help, healing, and many other spiritual gifts. Including a transformation. If the power of God does not transform you into a new person(there must be evidence of this) and cause you to live in a spiritually minded way, you have no salvation.

Heb 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

1 Pe 1:22 seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
1 Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Unmerited favor is a false gospel and leads to disobedience:

Eph 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Eph 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience
.
Eph 5:7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
Eph 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
Eph 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth)
Eph 5:10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

When Jesus said you must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God- He wasn't kidding...Jesus said unless you repent ye shall likewise perish. Again, He wasn't kidding. We are made righteous by His divine power influencing our lives and teaching us
to deny ungodliness.

Grace is the righteousness of Christ in us..It is power to overcome the Devil and discern good from evil. Grace is the love of God through the Holy Spirit to love even your enemies and bless those who curse you. God gives grace to the humble but resists the proud:

Jas 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud,
but giveth grace unto the humble.

If you lack the gifts of grace, it is because you are still to proud to receive them...The Bible gives a specific description of a person who reflects the power of God living in them.

The gospel of grace has been changed to lasciviousness( a license to live like the world) and the falling away is here just like the Bible said would happen...People have heaped to themselves teachers and are believing in false gospels.

American churches are full of false prophets(ministers of unrighteousness)teaching false doctrines, and the salt has lost its savor. The falling away is here in America and judgment day is coming. Please read the following warning and take heed to yourselves:

I must admit I've not finished reading The Falling Away is Here but I will! I just had to respond and say I agree agree AGREE! I was beginning to think no one else was seeing this. The unmerited favor FALSE doctrine was being taught in our church. My ex husband and I were attending regularly and talking about reconciling for a few years but this message completely divided us. He said he finally understood the grace message and felt free. I don't think there are any limits for him now. He gets drunk, swears, porn... As he is "no longer under the law but under grace". He believes anytime we feel guilty about doing something or saying something it is "condemnation and there is no more condemnation for him who believes". Then he'll say to me "and who condemns us, the enemy". The final straw was sex. We were married but have been divorced for several years and I've told him I know sex is wrong unless we are married. I admit to falling short many times over the years but this past year as I've dug deep in the Word and prayer because of this false doctrine that was coming between us, I have no doubt it's wrong. There is NO justifying it. I'm not budging. It didn't go over well with him and rather than physically fighting him off everything we were together I had to end things. He has called me Moses, Aaron, a pharisee, a legalist, etc. I've been told I'm deceived. I've been told I'm trying to get to heaven by my good works [which he also reminds me they are as filthy rags anyway). I've explained to him I obey out of love for my Father which he dismisses saying I'm self righteous and we all sin all the time anyway. I'm contemplating sending him the link to The Falling Away is Here. I'll pray about that but we've broken things of and I'm not sure if I should leave it alone or not. Nothing to lose at this point and everything to gain. Thanks for your post. God bless you!

take the word "grace" and replace it with "compassion" .. then you get the meaning ..

it is only by grace compassion of God that salvation is made possible for us ..

As he is "no longer under the law but under grace".

those are they who are still the old creature ..
Jesus said if you are not born again (become a new creature) that you cannot enter heaven ..

what these people do is ignore that though we are no longer under the law of Moses, we ARE under the law of Christ .. and the bible refers to those who disobey the law of Christ as "lawless" ..

I guess you didn't read the last part of my post...Don't respond unless you read the PDF.

If you want to discuss what I have written, go read it first. But I will say this. You are wrong on all points...

Jesus said you must be born again to enter the 'kingdom of God':

Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

He is talking about is communion with God through the Spirit because receiving the gifts of the Spirit is 'entering the kingdom':

Luk 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Rom 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy
in the Holy Ghost.

When we receive this 'kingdom' we also receive grace( gifts of the Spirit) to serve Him:

Heb 12:28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace,
whereby we may serve God
acceptably with reverence and godly fear:

When we are given teaching and instruction by the Holy Spirit, we receive grace( power, love, healing, help, discernment, meekness, compassion, longsuffering, etc) But all gifts of grace are from the Holy Spirit:

Rom 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

1Co 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto
the Spirit of grace?

You have built a wrong foundation and on the day of Judgment it is going to fall...Go read my warning letter and then come back. Do not reply anymore unless you read it. Thank you in advance...

I don't need to read the PDF ..
you have no understanding of these things ..
born again IS becoming born of the spirit .. aka a new creature ..
the Kingdom of God within you IS being holy ..

you need to quit teaching .. because you teach from your own understanding and obviously not taught by God ..

grace is merely compassion ..
all receive unmerited grace/compassion .. but not all take advantage of the compassion and obey God and accept His covenant ..

they foolishly think the grace/compassion of His offering salvation IS salvation .. salvation is to those who LOVE God with their ALL, and treat neighbor as self .. and endure/abide in that love ..
if you do not OBEY GOD you do not love God ..

Lynn thank you for your post. If you recognize this, it is because the Holy Spirit is allowing you to see the truth. This is good news in these last days because God is sending a strong delusion to those who do not want to believe the truth. I would like to give you a couple bits of advice...If he is your first and only husband there can be reconciliation. If he is a second or third you are committing adultery with him(unless your first husband died and then you can remarry- but only another Christian). Having said that- Your ex is listening to the spirit of the world not the spirit of God and is thus not receiving good teaching. Pray and fast for him to receive wisdom from God and freedom from the oppressing spirit he is under.

You are not a legalist...You are obeying the truth thru the Holy Spirit and that means you really are born again. Do not let the enemy convince you of anything different. We are able to obey the truth when the power of God is working in us( that is the true grace of God and how we have salvation). Keep your face in the word of God and forsake the ways of the world...You will grow in grace and become stronger spiritually by doing these things. That is what faith means and why we receive grace through faith. Those who continue in the world are still at enmity with God and are going to find out the hard way..Keep grounded in good doctrine and you will remain on the right path( a narrow one that few will take) God Bless

OK you can argue with me but you cannot argue with scripture:

1Pe 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Jas 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

The Holy Spirit brings us to life through the word of God because the words of God are spiritual:

Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Joh 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

That is what it means to be 'quickened and why Ephesians 2:5 says that to be quickened is grace:

Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Psa 119:93 I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.

Again, go read the PDF it is simply scripture broken down precept upon precept line upon line..

born again IS becoming born of the spirit .. aka a new creature ..
now why would I read the words of men when the HS speaks to me ???

Jhn 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

2Cr 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

1Pe 1:14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,

1Pe 1:14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,

Jhn 3:6 “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Gal 4:29 But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also.

legalist/legalistic .. is that suppose to be a bad thing ???
I am under the Law of Christ .. I obey the Law of Christ ..
those who do not are "lawless" ..

Mat 7:23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

Not sure where you are going with all that. You cannot obey the laws of Christ without help from the Holy Spirit...'If we say we know Him and do not the truth it is because He is not in us'. The word 'legalist' was made up by Satan for his disobedient children to use as an excuse not to seek the face of God and humble themselves. Under the law means to be led of the flesh, under the Spirit means to be led of the Spirit. They who mind the things of the flesh are still under the law. ( if you live to the flesh you will die) But if you are led by the Spirit then you are under grace. You cannot have one without the other...Please read the PDF and then come back and give me your thoughts. Perhaps I have a thing wrong or that needs further scrutiny...If you don't read it though how will you know where I am coming from or what 'spirit' i am listening to? Have a good day

Not sure where you are going with all that. You cannot obey the laws of Christ without help from the Holy Spirit...

sure you can .. the HS is given to those who obey ..
Act 5:32 “And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

The word 'legalist' was made up by Satan for his disobedient children to use as an excuse not to seek the face of God and humble themselves.

I would say used by those who want to justify going on sinning ..

Under the law means to be led of the flesh, under the Spirit means to be led of the Spirit. They who mind the things of the flesh are still under the law. ( if you live to the flesh you will die) But if you are led by the Spirit then you are under grace.

but you are STILL under the Law of Christ ..
a lot of people do not understand there are two Laws and deeds being addressed ..

1Cr 9:21 to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law.

You cannot have one without the other...Please read the PDF and then come back and give me your thoughts. Perhaps I have a thing wrong or that needs further scrutiny...If you don't read it though how will you know where I am coming from or what 'spirit' i am listening to? Have a good day

ok .. my adobe reader is not working so I can't .. sorry ..

1Cr 9:20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law (the Law of Moses) though not being myself under the Law (the Law of Moses) so that I might win those who are under the Law; (the Law of Moses)
1Cr 9:21 to those who are without law (Gentiles) as without law (the Law of Moses) though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ (Paul is a Christian) so that I might win those who are without law (Gentiles).

some may ask .. what is the Law of Christ ???

Luk 10:25 And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
Luk 10:26 And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”
Luk 10:27 And he answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.
Luk 10:28 And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.

Jam 2:8 If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF,” you are doing well.

Gal 6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.

so indeed .. I am a legalist, because I am under the Law of Christ and seek to obey it ..

Mat 7:23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

I agree we are under the law of Christ which is to love others. We can only do that according to the power and love of the Holy Spirit. Our love is not good enough. It must be the love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit that empowers us to love others. It is with the new heart and new spirit given to us by God that we can fulfill the law of Christ. Without Him, we can do nothing...To get there we must obey Him and be born again(receive the kingdom of God) then we can serve Him. Most people never become born again because they never obey the word of God. The word of God is the 'schoolmaster' by which we are converted and become part of the kingdom.

First you obey the truth thru the Spirit and then after you have done the will of God- then you are sealed with the Spirit of promise. Jesus said if a man keep my words we will come make our abode with him. We have to obey the Spirit and be cleansed before He will live in us. God will not live in a filthy house:

Act 7:49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
Act 7:50 Hath not my hand made all these things?
Act 7:51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.

The Holy Spirit must cause us to be born again by the word before He will make His abode with us. Then we are led by His power. ( no longer by our flesh) If what you stated about 'obeying the word of God without the Holy Spirit' were true then you could boast that you had done it 'of your ownself'..(without His help)... That becomes a 'works' doctrine chief...Anyway, Like I said in another thread..this is the last time I am going to politely ask you to go read the post or quit making remarks. You cannot comment on something you have not read. Thank you again in advance and I am sorry to hear that your adobe is broken. It is a free download so just go update it at adobe .com...Here is the link to it:

so the works of the Law of Moses cannot help you ..
BUT Jesus will reject you if you don't do the works of the Law of Christ ..
thus FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD ..

Paul reiterates that here ..
1Cr 13:2 If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

so doing acts of LOVE (towards God as in obedience, and towards others as in kindness & charity) is the works of Christ (see Mat chap 7 & 25) and mandatory .. practicing "lawlessness" is practicing "non-love" ..

Mat 7:23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

Agreed and our 'faith' does not stand in our own power but in the power of God:

1Co 2:5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

That is why grace is the power of God and we receive the power of God through faith:

1Pe 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

2Co 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Grace is the power of God( Christ) and why we can do all things through Him...With that comes love, discernment, strength, patience, many gifts of the Spirit( gifts by grace) Hope that helps..God be with you.
