Love and Forgiveness

I agree with you Jim and I do this as well. It really does guide me in understanding.
I just wish the task wasn't made more difficult by all these different versions.

That would be nice but then again that would leave too many people with out versions they can grasp a hold of. ; )

It is made more difficult because in some cases different versions say different things within the same verses. That my dear sister is confusing.

Of all the versions I consult, I have NEVER found a conflicting message. I am of the firm belief that we need to submit our thinking to Holy Spirit and He brings it all into complete harmony at all times.

The amp version is really peculiar. Its like reading the bible plus thesaurus like you are doing a crossword puzzle.

Stick to one version, its easier.

I don't view it as a blessing...quite the opposite actually. I view it as an attempt of the enemy to corrupt the the word of God.

That isn't the truth. God is the preserver and conservator of His own word. We can RELY on Holy spirit to give us His discernment. So far the only evil renderings of so-called scripture is the bibles put out for people with evil causes, such as homosexuality and New Agism. I fully trust His discerning power to show me such blatant demonic attempts to overrule God's word. It is important to have His confidence.

Maybe not a conflicting message but a different idea being presented. I clearly remember coming across one instance in the NASB...when I cross checked these verses with other versions I was disturbed to see that they were saying different things.

The Amplified version is a very useful version to consult with as it employs the full array of alternate Greek meanings for many words used in scripture.

Can you produce the instance you are describing?

I wish I could and I was just thinking that same thing but unfortunately I can't as I don't remember where in the bible it was. The only thing I remember is that it was in the old testament. Doesn't help much...sorry lol.
I just remember going over the verses several times, cross checking several times and they just were not saying the same thing.

Is it at all possible that the translation of the meanings of the words in question could be the source ? I mean some times we take words to mean one thing and when they were written they took on a different meaning.

For me I take what feeds me from this bible and combine it with what feeds me with that bible and use it all together. Some times just reading the same thing in different words makes the entire passage pop.
Just a thought

May I submit to you that the Word of God is plain only to those that the Spirit make it plain to. If the bible was so plain then there wouldn't be so many differently interpretations of what it teaches, and as a results so many different beliefs.

Exactly and if it was so plain and to be studied with natural mans views then there would be no need to rely on His Spirit. God however in His wisdom made it so His truths are hidden from the world and those who do not seek Him with His spirit or born again.

...I submit that since scripture is God breathed, the spirit will make it plain to you when you read.

This only works if the version you are reading is the actual spirit inspired scriptures. If its been corrupted, it wont make sense.

For example, when I became a christian, only KJV bible came alive for me. God wanted me to read that version. He did not convict me through reading the NIV because I had that version as well and nothing made sense to me from it even though I diligently tried to read it, as friend gave me a study bible NIV. Once started reading all of Bible, even though I thought...KJV what? Thats olde english, I wont understand it...nope, God was speaking to me through it.

This is my personal experience of scripture anyway. and good thing was, I didnt have to buy any other version, they all really expensive anyway. Even NKJV...nope. Weird huh? It has to be plain Holy Bible, nothing added, nothing taken away.

It is always good to find one version that speaks to you and gets your understanding moving in the right direction. I have found at times it is good to pick up another version like NLT or AMP and read in it awhile as well. It seems to charge things up I think we tend to get to a place where we need things shaken up a bit other wise it becomes the same ol thing.

Not putting dowen on tyhe written word of God but Change is good and adds to our growing.
Well it seems that way for me. lol

There are way too many loose, sloppily translated paraphrased versions of the bible, some are not even proper translations. It is best to go Word for word, as the Bible is Gods Word after all. This applies across all translations. KJV tops them all in English, because the translators diligently did this from the origninal languages from uncorrupted manuscripts.

Of course there may be others now, but why knock something that stood the test of time for 400 years from when it was first published?

Anyway, others may have different views and they certainly entitled to them, but Im not going to mess with what God puts on my heart in the scriptures with the Words he wants me to remember.

I found that the good thing about Gods word that, the more your study the bible, you find deeper meaning, but it does not change. The words do not change. They are like what God inscribed on those tablets if stone, except once you eat those words, they are engraved on your heart. Your understanding builds with each word, line upon line, precept upon precept. The spirit makes them come alive.

Exactly Lanolin. I guess I did not explain all to well. God has shown this to me as to what helps me in this. Like you though I am very careful about which one I read. I pray about it and open it up and begin to read certain verses and see what happens. I tend to get peace about it or I will feel like Oh heck no and want to throw it in the trash can and I leave that one there. lol

Yes mam that is thee most awesome thing about His word. It is life unto us. The more you eat of His word the stronger you get and the stronger you get then new insights and understandings will come. He always knows just when to increase your understanding.

The KJV isn't the only bible that God speaks to people through. It's just ridiculous to claim that it is. You cannot deny Holy Spirit speaks through all versions in all languages to all nations of people.
