Well, look at this way. Where was the Holy Spirit in the Old Test????
Was He around at Creation. with Shadrack and Abendigo, and with David and Daniel? Of Course He was!!!!!
But He He did not INDWELL them. He came upon and then left when the situation was over or the mission accomplished.
Now however He lives in the hearts of believers. When the Believers are removed to excape the wrath of God, He is leaving with them.
That is when all hell will break out on the earth!
And that is where the Word 'let him that is holy be holy still and he that is filthy be filthy still' will be manifest because the H.S. won't be present to change anything.

And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. 14 But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. 15 Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, [b]which thing I hate. 16 Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

Pergamos is also the home of the temple of DIONYSUS where the god BACCHUS lived. He is the god of wine and alcohol and is pictured as the 1/2 man and 1/2 goat with cloven feet and tail but his upper body as a human man.
Pergamos is also the home of the temple of AESCULAPIUS. This was the Greek god of "healing". The area around the temple was covered with thousands of snakes and the thought was that by touching them or them rubbing you would heal you. In time, tame snakes ( ? ) were kept in his temples as this animal was regarded as a symbol of regeneration.
Hygieia, Goddess of Health hygiene who was the daughter of Asclepius tended to his temples. Her symbol became a bowl containing a medicinal potion, with the serpent of Wisdom drinking from it. She is a goddess of health, healing, and hygiene.
I said all of that to point your attention to the AMA medical symbol which is a STAFF with two Snakes coiled around it.
Doctrine of Balaam = a compromise of Christianity with Paganism resulting in idolatry and immorality.

Remember, the letters to the 7 CHURCHES are inclusive to us today so YES there are many in the church that the church should not tolerate.

I believe you have stated earlier in this course that you consider Revelation to compound document of things that were (have happened), things that are happening now and things that will happen (come to pass).

John was told to write what WAS which was his PAST, what IS which what happened during his life and what WILL BE is yet Furure to John and to us still today.
IMHO, Jesus had John write these letters to seven actual churches in first-century Asia Minor for the purpose of diagnosing their present, spiritual condition so then they would all be considered in John's present day or "WHAT IS!"

Twenty five years ago, when I was called to my last church, I aske them what the #1 Biblical book was that they would like to study on Sunday evening and the overwhelming answer was the book of the Revelation.
I ask WHY? They said, because no one teaches it at a level we can understand.
