REVELATION 5:2-4.............
"And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon."
We are now just past the "Removal of the Church" and John is still having a vision of the Throne Room of God.
He has witnessed the worship taking place. He has seen a "Book" in the hand of the Trinity.
Now a STRONG angel comes forward to ask......."WHO is morally fit to open this book"????? WHO is worthy????
Who then is this angel must be the next question?
We know that it is not the Lord Jesus and we will see that in verse #5.
My opinion is this angel must be Michael the Arch angel or Gabrial.
The prophet Daniel is told that Michael the archangel is “the great prince who protects your people” (
Daniel 12:1). Daniel’s people are the Jews, and the fact that Michael “protects” them suggests that God has set various holy angels over various countries or people groups. Seeing that the Tribulation Peroid is just about to begin and it is all about bring the Jews to Christ, It is my opinion that this strong angel is Michael.
Also consider that Michael is described in all three books as contending, fighting, or standing against evil spirits and principalities (
Daniel 10:13; 21; Jude 9; Revelation 12:7).
Notice that despite his great power, Michael is still in total submission to the Lord Jesus!. His dependence on the Lord’s power is seen in
Jude 1:9. The righteous angels have a rank and are submissive to authority, and for this reason they are used as a picture of a wife’s submission to her husband (1 Corth. 11:10). Taking into consideration the strength of Michael the archangel, his submission to God is all the more beautiful. If the submission of angels is an argument for woman’s submission, we can see that submission is never meant to take away a woman’s strength or purpose or value.
Verse #3.
All of heaven is searched. The Earth is searched and NO ONE is found! Now consider what that means......NO MAN was found ANYWHERE!
Nor Moses, Adam, Noah, Enoch, Abraham, Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah, David, John, Peter, Matthew, Paul...NO ONE!
WHY??????????
The answer is found in Romans 3:23......"ALL HAVE SINNED AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD"!
Verse #4.
This led John to cry/wept MUCH!
Again the question has to be WHY????
1. It could be that he yearned to see creation set free from the bondage of sin!
2. It could also be that he wanted the promise of 4:1 to be fulfilled.
