Journal The Cabin

I know In Awe of Him explained about things that are not explainable. She may be getting visitors from up North and then follows being on the list to visit. Is this one in the same? Um, Please explain? 😯???
Santa and his elves?
The Northern lights?
Polar bears?
Eskimos?
Aren't you already "up North"??? (my perspective):D

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA and still HAHAHAHAHAHA.... Obviously... it is NOT wise to sign in and start typing posts BEFORE the second cup of coffee.

The comment of expecting visitors up North is taken from the showing of the above video.... and.... because when I think of the cabin... I picture it being up North... which is funny because most of you are from the US and you probably just think of the cabin being in the woods. HA.

I hope that my attempt at humour goes better.... moving forward.... HAHAHAHAHAHA

Good morning my beautiful and precious forum family.

Can you believe it's January 4th already??? I have a feeling that the time is simply going to whiz by this year. I'm not sure if that's an age thing or just something that happens when a soul is at peace but anyways.... it's a thing for me. I can't seem to keep track of the days ( in a good way ). :D

Going to be a quiet day for me... just slowly plodding away at the puzzle. I am finished collecting the border pieces and am now sorting out the puzzle by colour. I should have the border up today and then the process of "slewing" begins. Remember that word??? I made it up and for the sake of refreshment... I will give you the definitions. HAHA.

to slew... to overtake... control... and defeat ( without a sword )
slewing... the active state of the above ( still without a sword )
slewed... the completed task of having slewed ( never with a sword )
slewage... the defeated state of a completed puzzle. ( accomplished without a sword )

and that my friends is how you capture and defeat a puzzle. HAHAHAHA.

Ok... so... I am enjoying some beautiful instrumental worship music to start my day.... and I wish all of the cabin visitors a precious day. Come sit down... put your feet up... and enjoy a coffee by the fire.

I think Mr. Moose is up to something in the kitchen today... He signed up for supper service.

Hi In Awe of Him,

My new Commonwealth friend. And what a lovely cabin. I`m excited to get here and look inside and meet new people. Well, you can imagine how great it feels to be in the cooler weather at the cabin, for we down under in our place are sweltering with 40 degrees Celsius.

As for jigsaw puzzles we are onto our third this season. And this one has a man fishing from his boat. it was given by a friend because my hubby loves to go fishing in his boat. Well, hubby uses the `look carefully, shape, colour, etc ` method. I use the `pick one up and try somewhere ` method. You can guess who does most of the puzzle.

Oh, any snack suggesting you would like me to bring? Oh, hubby just said we love `chocolate moose.` Ooops not in any way disparaging to Mr Moose whom I am told is a great cook.

See you next time. Marilyn.
Oh Marilyn... a very warm and tender welcome to you... Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your delightful method of puzzling. I chuckled when I read how you and your husband differ in the process. HAHA.

I have discovered that the reason I love jigsaw puzzling so much is that because there is ONLY ONE answer. The puzzle pieces are set to fit in a certain place and when everything is said and done... it produces a work of art.
This activity allows me to be creative and to produce something of beauty. I wish I could draw or paint... but I have this fear of a blank page... just don't know where to start or what colours go with what. I have watercolour paints and markers and the proper paper but it all sits in the drawer.

I really want to journal so that I have things to leave behind for my daughter to read when I am no longer here. I love the idea of what they call a junk journal. It's just a combination of colour... writings... and different textures.... but I have the same issue with that intimidating BLANK PAGE. So silly that a book with bound pages would be so overwhelming to me. Good GRIEF!!!! HA.

My friend made me a journal... It's thick with different types of paper... she sewed the cover by hand and painted it. It's spectacular and so precious to me. I have just taken it out of it's wrapping. It was hiding in my closet... and now it is out again... waiting for me to speak.

Marilyn.... For some reason... your post has motivated me to CREATE this year. Please don't be a stranger.

Tenderly, In Awe of Him

P.S. Regarding snack selections.... Peanut butter cups are the preferred food for the cabin... according to Mr. Moose. Fizzy drinks ( gingerale ) are also a hit. It seems that everyone else just brings their favourite dish and it all works out splendidly... Breaking bread together as friends and family is PRECIOUS to us.

Good morning, Marilyn;

We're blessed you stopped by. I asked my wife to put together a puzzle with me but she's not there yet.

If you do bring snacks, some of us love red and black licorice, peanut brittle, Oreo cookies, chocolate Häagen-Dazs ice cream, fruit cake and Root Beer 0 (because I'm on a diet.)

I explained to my wife that puzzling takes lots of prayer, preparation, organization and determination but she fell asleep listening. Go figure! 🤔!!!

As far as the snacks there are now lots of cupboards in the Cabin, eh?

A&W Zero Root Beer
🤡!!!

Hi In Awe of Him,

Thank you for your lovely welcome to the Cabin. I think I know how you feel looking at that beautiful journal with the colored pages (I think) and wondering can I write on it. Well, I see how you write here and I`m very sure you`ll get a flow. It is just starting that is the difficulty. So, I am suggesting a few things to you, and you can use them or they may get you going.

So Day and Date......

Scripture. Ps. 45: 1 `My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King. My tongue is the pen of a ready writer...`

What was Good about Today.

We are now in the Cabin and ready for the New Year`s joys and trials. With me are a mottley crew but oh so precious. First there is -

Bob the great encourager.......

Big Moose who pulls the biggest load.......

.........etc

Praise. I thank you Lord for bringing us all together again and we look forward to all you have for us. We thank and praise you for your great mercy and continual kindnesses towards us all.

Hope that gets the creative juices flowing. Marilyn.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA bobinfaith .... You do so make my heart giggle.

In your defence.... if I remember correctly.... YOU did not pick the famous Mon Balcon puzzle. I think it was given to you. Probably one of the most important things about puzzling for me is that if I don't like the picture.... chances are... the puzzle will not get done.... and you are correct in that a puzzle takes a lot of determination. At this point if I were you... I would think about DONATING the puzzle for the GREATER GOOD.... HAHAHA. If you send it to me... I will do it for you and give you the credit..... HAHAHAHA.... just joking.

As far as cupboards in the cabin.... YES.... YES... and YES... there are lots and with Mr. Moose's stash now being in a secret place outside of the cabin... we have even more space. Which leads me to the topic of COOKING... I am thinking of asking Mr. Moose if he would be open to giving weekly cooking lessons. :D

And lastly.... about the root beer zero... Back in the day.... these zero drinks were simply called "diet" drinks. Not sure who decided on the name change but it seems that all brands now have their version of "zero" drinks. GOOD GRIEF!!!

Good morning Marilyn C...

You have given me indeed a beautiful encouragement and idea to BEGIN my journal... and that got me to remembering that a few months back... I purchased a large ( 9" X 11" ) sketch book. It has the word Imagine on the cover. The book only cost 5.00 so there is no risk in using it. HA. For me... the thing that intimidates me is the fact that books that are bound do not give you permission to just throw the page out and start over if a mistake is made... thus the FEAR of making a mistake. It doesn't make much sense to write on loose leaf and then glue it to the page. HA. It is such a silly fear.... I know it... when I say it.... I am struck with how silly it is... but yet it stops me from even starting. SO.... I have taken that sketch pad out of the drawer so that I can see it and I will ask Jesus to help me.

The book that my friend made me is more of an art journal. It has different weights and types of paper for different mediums... and so it is meant mostly for sketches and watercolour or ink.

I really sense a prodding here to start getting creative and allowing the process to evolve. There is another thread started about fountain pens and this is something that I at least can relate to because I love to write. So... perhaps... my creative journey will begin with buying myself a fountain pen and see where that takes me.

Thank you for the encouragement... I think you have given me the boost I need to begin something.

Morning to you, In Awe of Him,

Yes I did wonder about that lovely journal that your friend gave you that it might be for drawings etc. And starting is always difficult for we don`t want to mess it up. Maybe you could start with a pencil drawing say, of a wildflower you have in Canada and then color it in.

Anyway, I`m sure it will turn out just fine. Marilyn.

Well... Happy Tuesday everyone. I skipped a day. It was go to the BIG MALL DAY yesterday.... and I would like to add that I was in and out within an hour ( just as I like it.... zippy, doo dah done ). :D
So... I decided I was going to look for a fountain pen. Walmart used to have calligraphy sets and different types of fountain pens but NOT anymore. They have renovated the store. Took over a year to do this and the only thing that has improved is... they have their own ovens now and can make rotisserie chickens.... OH YEAH!!! ( eye balls rolling ). They WRECKED Walmart.... YES they did. Way less availability of things. Anyways... I visit that place MAYBE 4 times a year so I am not going to complain... even though I just did.
All the above to say that I came home with a pack of retractable ball point pens. This is what they call the ink they use. HA

  • Low viscosity ballpoint ink for a smooth, skip-less writing experience.
Sounds like a miracle!!! Looking forward to having a skip-less writing experience. HA.

Ok... so NO pen... however... many pens as I got the pack that said 5 + 2 Bonus... which means 7 pens... for the price of 5. I paid 4.99 for the pen set... and LOOKIE... they just got their very own debut... right here at the CABIN. HAHA.

I also picked up a pair of winter boots for 50% off. They are walking boots so they are slimmer and less bulky and apparently I can walk in minus 31 and still have toasty warm paws. Going to try them out in a couple of hours... I'll see how far I get as I'm not sure if new boots have to be broken in or not. I have not been walking these last months and I want to get back to that since I quit the gym. I wish we needed chocolate instead of exercise but sadly... that is not the case.
I would love to walk to the dock and back as that walk covers well over the 10,000 steps... but we'll see... It's minus 12 right now... feels like minus 20 with the windchill.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

A mistake is just us learning. We use them to improve what we will do. We don't do, unless we make mistakes and learn and improve. So.........START MAKING SOME MISTAKES!!! HA!

Are we now doing commercials in the Cabin???? <busily looking for a sponsor>

Hello In Awe of Him;

When you bought your new pens, I have a question.

  • Low viscosity ballpoint ink for a smooth, skip-less writing experience. Who thinks about that when you're writing? 😄!!!

"They are walking boots" isn't that what boots are for - reference Nancy Sinatra! 🤜 😎 lol!

Bob

That's what I want to know.... but according to the manufacturer.... low viscosity ballpoint ink is the way to go. HAHAHA.... GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Bob... now I've got that tune in my head. HAHA.

I have found that winter boots are very BULKY and not good for walking distances. Here in the North where temperatures can dip severely... there are some who still like to WALK for exercise.

There are brands of sports boots which are slimmer and made of cold resistant materials.

Another thing I have FAILED to explain properly. HAHAHA.
