Journal The Cabin

THE LAKE has broken...... I REPEAT.... the Lake has BROKEN.

There must be a technical term for that but I just call it broken.... meaning when the water finally flows freely and the ice is GONE....... That happened two days ago... and I did my HAPPY DANCE.... plus ran to the neighbours to DECLARE that the LAKE was BACK..... HAHAHA. My neighbours have learned to EXPECT my very silly gestures through out the year... and so they simply CASUALLY open their door.... watch me do my song and dance and then.... we all move on. HAHAHA. I think they secretly enjoy my little gestures of silliness and JOYFUL NOISE.

Anyways.... lots of work to be done. I have to wait until we have a few dry days before attempting to RAKE the gazillions of dead leaves and pine needles. That is the LEAST fun of all spring jobs.

Just wanted to do a quick check-in. I am being picked up for coffee in THREE minutes... HA.

Have a WONDERFUL DAY my beautiful FORUM FAMILY.
I thought of `Morning has broken like the first morning...` And I think you are very scriptural - `Make a joyful shout to the Lord all you lands..` (Ps. 110: 1)

We in OZ are still in the low 20`s and will soon meet you in the teens coming down as you are going up. If you can understand all that about the weather. And what temps do you get in Summer?

That might actually be why I word it the way I do.... It's a very harsh phenomenon....and many things can happen with a spring melt-off. This year... everything was smooth and slow.... and so no damage to properties due to the high winds blowing HUGE pieces of ICE to the shore.

When I say the lake has broken.... I think of the WATER rising up ABOVE the ICE.. and re-establishing itself. So much happens in my lake... through out the year. I think it's the ONLY kind of SCIENCE that I like. I find the different stages so very interesting and I celebrate them all.

The count down begins TODAY as to when my FIRST swim will be. I experimented last year and found that 11.8 degrees C is as cold as I will go... as it hurts the skin... and I am not into that. October 22, 2024 was my last dip.

I think this year... I will start with a rounded off 12 degrees C. I looked up the temperature of the lake and it's 4.5 degrees C. I am expecting to be able to go in within the next 10 days... depending on how nice our days are.

I DID understand everything you said about the weather... we are reverse in seasons... so this is now your HARVEST/ AUTUMN.

It was LOVELY to see you in the CABIN Marilyn C ... I hope you sat in Bob's CHAIR and enjoyed a FIZZY drink from Mr. Moose's stash... which I am NOTICING is pretty much in every little nook and cranny. He has a fear of being WITHOUT his beloved beverage. I found a few fizzy drinks in my winter boots a few days ago.
:D

We had their air raid HONKS beginning in March. Bruce said he will be swimming in your lake again soon. We have some stay here for quite a while and will hang out at a golf course since they have pond and lake accommodations with scenic cats-of-nine-tails and the like. They show their appreciation by fertilizing the grassy areas with their dropping productions.

Those tomato plants look great! You will LOVE those cherry tomatoes.

Yall do know my mother was from the island of Crete and my sister lives in Thessaloniki, right?
I have family all over Europe, and I speak Greek fluently. I hope they have a great time eating, relaxing, and site seeing.
That 12 hour flight isnt something I do these days though. Then its another 2 getting to Chania. Nope, nope, and nope.

Big Moose ....

My friend Margaret just WASHED her car.... and when we came out of the grocery store... well.... the pigeons had gifted her with not one but two dropping productions.... HAHAHAHA...... I thought my head was going to fall off from laughing so loud.... Poor Margaret... she did not find it the least bit funny.... and she did not find solace in the fact that I told her a MOOSE friend of mine calls it....... "dropping productions" HAHAHAHAHA and still HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Lard is the only thing I use for pies.... NEVER shortening.... I would LOVE to get me some duck fat... apparently it's like LIQUID GOLD.
Well........first, go get yourself a duck.
Then, feed it lots of sweets and processed foods.
Finally, make a duck dinner and collect all the duck fat you want.

I left a step out on purposely, (a word my kids invented), since it might seem too graphic, and not in the artsy way.

Funny story time.

I have a soda stream... I LOVE my soda stream... and usually my neighbour picks up the C02 cartridges from Canadian Tire because there are none available in my neighbourhood.

A few weeks ago... I discovered that Shopper's Drug Mart carries them... so... YEAH... I don't have to bother my neighbour anymore.

I picked up a C02 tank... I thought it was strange that the wrapper colour was pink instead of blue... but because I am NOT observant.... I went ahead and purchased it. When you buy a new tank and bring your old refill bottle... you do NOT have to pay a deposit fee... so usually... I pay 19.99 for a full tank plus tax. Without the empty bottle... full price is around 35.00. ( Are you confused yet?? ).

A C02 tank without an empty refill is anywhere from 35.00 to 40.00.
A C02 tank with the empty refill is 19.99. Makes no sense to me. That's the math on it.

So.... I come to find out that the PINK bottle does NOT fit my Soda Stream... and NOPE... I don't have my receipt.
I went back to Shopper's Drug Mart with my full pink C02 tank... with the hope that they would remember me.
Luckily... they were able to scan the bottle and bring up my receipt... so they gave me the money back for the full bottle.

I forgot to ask for my EMPTY TANK back.... so... this morning... I went back to Shoppers Drug Mart to see if I could retrieve my blue tank back.

The lady came from the back of the store with a blue bottle with lid on it... and she said... Sorry mam... we do not have any empty tanks... but I am just going to GIVE you this full one.

I should have noticed that there was NO plastic on the lid.... and I did not notice that she was rather on the light side.
Low and behold... I got home.... SO EXCITED for a FIZZY DRINK..... only to discover that she had given me back my basically empty tank. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I went from SHEER JOY.... to UTTER DISAPPOINTMENT...to SHEER JOY AGAIN.... BECAUSE the lady really meant to give me what she thought was a full tank with the blue wrapper that she only found ONE of.... HAHAHA.
