I have had vegetable gardens for many years. My nemesis was the GROUND HOG! I put up a fence to keep them out. He burrows under and steals tomatoes, beans, peas, anything he can get his grubby mitts on. I plant extra, a lot extra, to allow for this. He just destroys more! Where he burrows under the fence, I put a live trap. My neighbor is nice enough to take them to ground hog heaven for me. I start catching them, yes, more than one, more than two or three. This goes on all growing season. They still burrow another hole or climb the fence to break it to get in. I planted broccoli one year. As soon as the plants got started to about 6 inches tall, Mr. Ground Hog comes in and chews all ten to 15 plants down to the ground. He would attack green bean plants in a similar way. You can forget about planting spinach. UGH!Is there something you would like to share??? Spit it out.... WHAT did that nasty ground hog do to YOU?????
I really TRIED to read this with "empathy" as my dominant lens... and.... I am trying to imagine this scenario playing out in my little garden area.... I too... would NOT be happy.I have had vegetable gardens for many years. My nemesis was the GROUND HOG! I put up a fence to keep them out. And then there are all the holes they make under my shed! At times I felt like Wile E. Coyote trying to catch Roadrunner. Except I had like 22 Roadrunners!

Try as I might..... to NOT feel inappropriate emotions.... I am feeling EMPATHY for this little creature with the grubby mitts.I put up a fence to keep them out. He burrows under and steals tomatoes, beans, peas, anything he can get his grubby mitts on.

That to me seems to show that he does NOT discriminate and that he likes ALL his vegetables. Just sayin. He would attack green bean plants in a similar way. You can forget about planting spinach. UGH!
