Wars and Rumors of Wars

This even found its way into our school board.

Last week, during its regular monthly school board meeting, agenda item H12 (Condemnation of all violence perpetrated on the state of Israel) was discussed. The summary was "The purpose of this item is to request that the Superintendent offer District mental health services, such as counseling, made available to all schools across the District to support students who may be affected by the recent events in Israel." (see: https://pdfs.dadeschools.net/Bdarch/2024/Bd101624/agenda/h12rev.pdf)

During public hearings, one young female student spoke. She is from Palestine. She was articulate and made a good point about the passing of H12. There are victims on both sides, and I agree that the School Board should not take sides, especially taking into account that we are talking about children and non-combatants.

The School Board ended up voting for H2, but that young lady left an impression on me.

Just another heads up
Western Missiles have now been flying into Russia
Mr Putin made it clear already in September that in this case he considers a nuclear strike
We in the West are on the brink of a major crisis.

Pray and buckle up !

I believe (and I may be wrong) Mr. Putin is quite a poker player, full of bluffs.
Wasn't it he who first attacked Ukraine, and now he is calling Nato's maneuvers.

The ICC just put a warrant out for Netanyahu's arrest.
The same ICC (International Criminal Court) issued an arrest warrant warrant for Vladimir Putin back in March of 2023, so far crickets.

They used to call this saber rattling.
Being a kid of the 60's I remember the air raid siren once a week.
And why thing have always been tense. So far not in my life time have we slung Nukes yet.

Did anyone here serve in the military and was stationed in Germany in the early 1980s? If you did, do you recall the "5-k zone" and the Fulda Gap?

Back then, we were always just waiting for Russia to jump the border into West Germany. On more than one occasion, they rolled into what was known as the "5-k zone," which would cause a Europe-wide alert, and we all had to pack our Army toys and make our way to the entrance of the gap and wait to see what's next. We all had nukes back then, but no one really thought it would ever get to that point.

I do not really think anyone who currently has nukes in their arsenal is silly enough to deploy them. No one wins that conflict, and everyone knows it.

your exactly right

i would certainly hope Not .. not to sure that there might be some not calling out nation leaders .. i do think there are some who might entertain the idea . the united states needs to build our military up plenty of heavy fire power.. some cases we could take lessons from israel instead of trying to be the law enforcement had we finished dessert storm and put the other neighbors on notice so much for that rabbit trail

Our military is plenty “build” already. In 1954 (the earliest year I can find data on), our military was around 3.3 million. When I came in (1979), it was around 2 million (excluding reserves) and the budget was $126 billion. When I retired in 2003, it was 1.4 million (excluding reserves) and the budget was $449 billion. Last year, it was 1.4 million (excluding reserves) and the budget was $831 billion. The combined military budget for Russia, China, and North Korea is $339 billion. Our closest ally (UK) has a budget of $62 billion) (see: Defense Budget by Country (2024))

All modern military conflicts tend to happen “over there and not over here.” The 1st Gulf War was unique, in that Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Kuwait were allies. I do believe that conflict ended prematurely, but it was unique. The Middle East has been a mess since Biblical times and I do not see that changing any time soon. Israel (budget of $24 billion) had good cause for their action, but I do not like conflicts where so many non-combatants are killed. I do not have faith in the numbers being claimed (deaths: Israel 1,139; Gaza 44,176; Occupied West Bank 794) but I do believe the ratio is close. I do not see this as the “war to end all wars” and I am unclear on what the end game looks like. I do believe; however, that when the dust finally settles, not much will have changed.

no its not Going to change this is a family Feud i do disagree on our military were spread to thin. worst thing i see and i am not a military man.. politicians needs stay out of the military business and make sure they have what they need when we load up military equipment and when the mission is completed .they leave it behind we waste waste waste . i know for a fact if you have surplus left over. come budget time they cut the funds

Everything we do is political. Without politics, there would be no need for the military. We have allies because it meets mutual self-interest. We have enemies because of a lack of mutual self-interest. Military budgets are based on future needs. I grant you that there are way too many instances where fraud and waste are an issue, but when a decision is made to leave “stuff” behind, it is usually because the cost to benefit ratio makes it a viable option. The rationale behind the “we need more stuff,” argument is not because we left “stuff” behind, but because we want better “stuff.”

Our military budget just means that we have better “stuff.” We went from the Cold M1911 to the SIG Sauer M17 because the latter is better than the former, not because we kept leaving the 1911 behind and ran out of them. The reason we went to the 1911, from the M1892 is also because it was better “stuff.” The 1911 ammo (45 ACP) had better stopping power and this was an issue in the Philippines because those guys would wrap themselves in banana leaves. With the M1892, they would still die, but they were able to continue moving forward long enough to use their bayonets. The current 9mm ammo is smaller, but with advances in ammunition, it is faster and easier to handle (not to mention that no one wears banana leaves anymore 😊)

Can you please lock this thread !

The purpose of my post was simply to make us aware that a major military conflict has now started which will have serious consequences.
So we could pray and be a bit prepared.
I didn't expect such discussions about US politics etc
Here is something more important to think about, for all of us in the West

May the Lord still have mercy

Thank you
