Good morning,
This is a good list of the Doctrines.
I've shared with our congregation and other Churches that the Doctrines presented in this thread is vital to understand, at least the fundamentals of each one. The doctrines are important belief / teachings of Jesus Christ. In time as we continue to grow in Christ, we all have the opportunity to dig deeper each Doctrine and what it means.
Each Christian Church's autonomy may have their own set of Doctrines but the discipline of consistency in these Doctrines, is to be in accordance to the Word of God.
Please go back and review the list in this thread and one will see that each Doctrine is Biblical.
This is not to confuse Doctrines with the Ordinances. The Ordinances are sacred celebrations or remembrances such as Baptism and the Lord's Supper but that's for another discussion.
Major, a suggestion. Perhaps you can begin another thread on the Ordinances and each of their meanings.
These Doctrines become the accountability of each Church's leaders to establish and practice. It is also their responsibility to teach their congregants.
The list of Doctrines doesn't mean I'm going to master each one in my lifetime. Just like the Bible, there will always be room for study but having a basic understanding is a good start, and growing in it's meaning in the future is beneficial.
One a personal note. We're attending the funeral of a former member who died at 89. According to his son he decided the funeral will be held at a Catholic church. How has the Doctrines affected me in an instance such as this? By God growing me in my disposition, character and attitude in all life. I think about this.
My wife and I have attended at least 3 "funeral masses" that I can remember. There will be the Rosary, clinging of incense, prayers such as the Hail Mary, etc...Will I stand and protest what is and isn't Biblical while in attendance? Of course not.
Despite what I may disagree with, we will be there in silence and in Spirit, to remember an old friend, a brother in Christ who I solemnized his and his bride's wedding years ago. I'm there to support the family by my presence through prayer for his son, daughters, grandchildren and family. Their father will be missed by all, that's for sure.
I confess I won't enjoy being there, but it's not about me. The Doctrines aren't just a list of the Christian Church, it's purpose is to mold and shape what I practice, bringing Glory to God.
God bless everyone.
Bob
