Last Will And Testament Of Jesus

1. God promised to the partakers of the New Covenant that:
  • He would write His laws "in their minds and on their hearts." (Hebrews 8:10)
  • He would write in their hearts that which He'd previously written in stone (the Ten Commandments). (2 Cor. 3:3)
  • we can declare as Jesus did: "I delight to do Thy will, yea, Thy law is within My heart." (Psalms 40:8)
2. Just as the blood of a beast ratified the Old Covenant, the blood of Jesus ratified the New Covenant. (Matt. 26:28)

3. Whatsoever was to be part of the New Covenant had to be added before it was ratified b/c:
  • "if (a covenant) be confirmed, no man can disannuleth or addeth thereto". (Galatians 3:15)
  • "For a testament is of force after men are dead otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth." (Hebrews 9:16)

Jesus died on Friday, which means that Sunday keeping, even if begun on Resurrection morning, would have begun 2 days too late to be part of the New Covenant - which means the seventh day Sabbath of the Ten Commandments which are supposed to found written in the hearts of New Covenant Christians is still God's only New Covenant day of rest and Sunday observance is founded upon tradition of the Roman Catholic Church alone, according to their very own admission.

Jesus says, "If ye love Me, keep My commandments."

From my own reading of the Early Church Fathers.... They indicated that Sunday was not a sabbath - it was a day of work... They CELEBRATED Jesus resurrection happening on the First Day - Jesus beginning his resurrection "Work" on the First day...

Thanks

Catholicism speaks:

“The Bible says, 'Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath day.' The Catholic church says, No! By my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day, and command you to keep the first day of the week. And lo, the entire civilized world bows down in reverent obedience to the command of the holy Catholic church!” - Father Enright, C.S.S.R. of Redemptoral College, Kansas City, History of the Sabbath, p. 802

“The Catholic church,” declared Cardinal Gibbons, “by virtue of her divine mission changed the day from Saturday to Sunday.” - Catholic Mirror, September 23, 1983. (Official organ of Cardinal Gibbons)

"Sunday is a Catholic institution and its claim to observance can be defended only on Catholic principles .... From beginning to end of Scripture there is not a single passage that warrants the transfer of weekly public worship from the last day of the week to the first." (Catholic Press, Sydney, Australia, August, 1990.)

""Perhaps the boldest thing, the most revolutionary change the Church ever did, happened in the first century. The holy day, the Sabbath, was changed from Saturday to Sunday...not from any direction noted in the Scriptures, but from the Church's sense of its own power .... People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority, should logically become Seventh-day Adventists, and keep Saturday holy." - (Saint Catherine Church Sentinel, Algonac, Michigan, May 21, 1995.)

Yes, the early church observed Sabbath and did not recognize Sunday sacredness. In fact, history proves that Sabbath keeping was the practice of virtually ALL Christians worldwide but was gradually replaced with Sunday observance as Papal power and authority expanded throughout the land:

"For although almost all churches throughout the world celebrate the sacred mysteries on the Sabbath of every week, yet the Christians of Alexandria and at Rome, on account of some ancient tradition, have ceased to do this." - 5th century church historian Socrates Scholasticus

The "ancient tradition" that compelled them to keep Sunday was not the resurrection of Jesus, but Satan's "Venerable Day of the Sun" which was dedicated to the Sun god and designed to replace the worship of the Creator with that of the creation.

Most people have to work on both Sabbath days so therefore if someone works on any of those days they are in violation and therefore are pretty much out of luck on what day to actually practice the Sabbath on. I dedicate everyday to the Lord and the days I have off are for family and the Lord.

Well documented that this was instituted by Constantine. He had a number of sun worshipers to keep happy...

As "Pontifex Maximus" - High Priest of all religions under Roman Authority... He decreed Sunday (The First day) as a Sabbath day for the empire.... The reason it took off so well is that EVERYBODY got the day off - including Slaves by law...

Christians - claiming the authority of Paul's admonition that since we are not *REQUIRED* to keep the Sabbath on the 7th day and that one day is as good as another - didn't really get all bent out of shape by this....

I suppose it's fun to try to get folks all wound up about this sort of thing... As a historical point, it's good to know..

But.. It's no where near Doctrine central to Christian Faith...

Thanks

It's good to hear that you dedicate everyday to the Lord, as we all should, for we are told that "whatsoever ye eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God (which btw means that it's possible to eat, drink, and do things that are NOT to the glory of God). However, the commandment not only commands us to keep holy the seventh day Sabbath by not working on it but it ALSO commands us to work on the first six (which means there can't be "both" Sabbaths - there's only the one.) As New Covenant Christians, our love for Jesus should compel us to keep each law that was once written on stone, but now is written on our hearts. Believe me, I had to choose between a $10,000/month job and honoring the Lord's commandments and was fired for choosing to work "to the glory of God".

I agree with everything except that last line. We must first give up our allegiance to the "god of this world" and fully surrender to the King of kings if we are to enter His kingdom.

Refusing to obey all that Jesus has commanded we unprofitable servants (we can't earn salvation by keeping Sabbath or any other works) is evidence that we have not fully surrendered to Him because partakers of the New Covenant have His Ten Commandments written on their hearts, meaning they obey Him because they love Him. That's why He will declare to many shocked and surprised professed Christians in the last days, "I never knew you. Depart from Me, ye that work iniquity (which is deliberately refusal to obey Him)."

We are no longer bound by the law. Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath and the Sabbath wasn't reaffirmed in the NT. Also the Sabbath was created by God so men could rest not God. Remember we aren't under the law but of Grace and Jesus is our rest not the Sabbath.

Jesus is our perfect example. Did He not pick grain to eat on the Sabbath? Did He not heal on the Sabbath? As an observer of the Sabbath, I keep this in the for front of my mind, the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

But, we must each be convinced in our own minds.

Shalom

Circumcision and all other aspects of the Mosaic law are nailed to the cross, but the Moral law against having other gods, idolatry, murder, etc. is for all eternity and is what is written on the hearts of New Covenant Christians. (2 Cor. 1:3). Surely, we are not at liberty to erase what God has written.

We will have to agree to disagree

Shalom. Paul was speaking of the feast days which were optional observances when he talked about men being persuaded because he knew when God writes His Ten Commandments on the hearts of New Covenant Christians there is no option. That's why Jesus said, If ye love Me keep My commandments." Otherwise, He would have said, "If ye love Me, keep them or break them according to what seems right to you."

Just for the benefit of others, I'll mention that the Sabbath is in fact reaffirmed (contrary to the myth) in the New Testament in Hebrews 4:9. The Greek is "Sabbatismos" which is why the Peshitta translates that verse, "There remains therefore a keeping of Sabbath to the people of God..."

That is the most ridiculous bit of something I have read in a very long time. The Sabbath was given to Adam and all men, part of a continual covenant. The 10 Commandments were given to the Israelites as part of a conditional covenant. We are under a continual covenant the Covenant of Grace. The laws written on our hearts are two - 1 LOVE GOD ABOVE ALL THINGS 2 LOVE EACH OTHER. That's it. If you love God you do not blaspheme Him, or take His name in vein, etc. Next, this is not a salvation issue, therefore not worthy of debate.

The Two sum up, not replace, the Ten, for James said 30 years after the Cross that adultery and murder were still sin. "Covenant of Grace", along with "The Two replace the Ten", are two phrases that are used to advance the false narrative that we are now at liberty to break the Ten Commandments that God writes on New Covenant Christian hearts. When you get down to it, Christians don't have a problem with 9 of them, it's just that fourth one - to the point that they will even argue that we are free to keep doing what made necessary the death of our Lord. Jesus has shocking words in the last day for those who believe and teach that we can erase what the Holy Spirit writes on the hearts of New Covenant Christians (Matthew 7:23).
