Order of Events in the Gathering?

Well homework is important. You think you can go to school and learn everything there and never apply it? No.
You do projects and activities. You do things in groups. You learn outside of the lessons and classroom itself.

I could go to a cooking class and learn how to make a meal, but if I never do it at home, I would have forgotten it.

appreciate this thread and the many comments. I took a little time to read through them from the beginning. The reality of life in Christ is dissipating from the earth because of the corruption the devil and men's own desires has so skillfully worked replicated an imitation of the truth that many have fallen for lies. Lordship of Christ Jesus is being abandoned for other things that keep us occupied. I guess as part of the great falling away from the faith, Paul points out will happen before Christ's return.

Hey brothers..unfortunately we cant change the institution..we either stay or we get out..find like minded brothers and gather in one anothers homes..where 2 or 3 are gathered in his name, our Lord Jesus Christ will be there.

The 'church institution' and the order in which they do things are traditions passed down by our fathers and their fathers and so on.

Isaiah 29:13- Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

Ezekiel 20:18..But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols

The Isrealites were warned and then punished because they kept their fathers traditions rather than the commandments of God..We are doing the same thing today as a church.

Matthew 15:9-But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Why do we build church buildings?I dont see that in the bible..why do the buildings have names?Division starts here.We say,I am catholic, I am babtist, I am Lutheran and so on..Does anyone see the link between what im saying and this next verse?

1Corinth 1:12-Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

Are we not carnal minded as Paul goes on to say?

True fellowship unfortunately does not happen at the 'church building' on a Sunday. The order of things will never change.

I was once many years ago invited to a "Homecoming" service at a church we served in. The service started at 11:00.
At 12:45....yes 12:45, after testimonies, history recitals and songs, the pastor announced that I was going to come now at this time and bring a timely message for all of us.

I stood to the pulpit and said......
"As the hour is late, and I along with all of you am really hungry, so God bless the service today and the food we are to eat, in Jesus Name amen".

So help me God.........50 or so people in the crowd stood up and applauded.
 
I think the fast food (or Cafeteria Christian) has its merits, and also it's drawbacks (what, chicken AGAIN??) but also, I like the tradition of the Sunday Roast.

Acts 20:7-9 (NASB) On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight. There were many lamps in the upper room where we were gathered together. And there was a young man named Eutychus sitting on the window sill, sinking into a deep sleep; and as Paul kept on talking, he was overcome by sleep and fell down from the third floor and was picked up dead.

OK what time of day did Paul start speaking?

Most church meetings start at 10am though some services are 9am and 6pm. I can never get to the 6pms because that's my dinner time.
But 7:30 pm home groups are fine. They usually go on to about 9:30. Any later and it's pushing it.

I went to one where the host lady kept wanting me to stay late, have a cup of tea, chat...but I'm like I have to get home. Unlike some, I have work tomorrow and I need my beauty sleep.

Yes, first day of the week (Sunday), you'd think a number of them would have to go to work the next day.

Genesis 1:5 - And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Leviticus 23:32- It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

Even to even meaning evening to evening.

Acts 20:7- And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

And upon the first day of the week - This would mean Saturday evening, as the disciples met for dinner.They were most likely out all day teaching and preaching the gospel because it was the Sabbath (Saturday).

Technically, Saturday evening is the beginning of Sunday. God's days are from sunset to sunset not midnight to midnight.

The keeping of Sunday is another tradition of man..This is a fact which we can google search.

There is a interesting reason why God decided to start days at evening.Our Father in heaven is truly amazing.

Interesting post, RDJ;

About 9 years ago after my home church met in the mornings I served a second church in the evenings, and another church 2 years ago, also in the evenings, while both churches were in between hiring a permanent pastor.

It reminded me how nice the evening services were because when I got home there was a spirit of relaxation, peace and calm before my wife and I got a good night's sleep.

I realize that I miscalculated. I suppose as the Jews today start their Shabbat on Fri evening to Saturday evening (6pm) and overlooked that the First day of the week would begin Saturday night. But still, Sunday would be their first day back to work, so my (humorous) point still stands.

Hey Crossnote,I wasn't trying to point out your mistake,but rather using the opportunity to share the truth.

This thread is or was about 'order of events' or traditions.The humorous conversation you were having allowed me to present the mother of all traditions..which is the observance of Sunday as a Christian holy day over Saturday.

Im not 7th day Adventist or 7th day Baptist or anything else.Im just a follower of Jesus Christ.

Now from the beginning of creation,after God created everything,He rested the seventh day,He blessed and made that day holy.Now surely that blessing is woven into the fabric of that day,into the very fibre of part of his creation and can never be undone or changed.Everything he created then at the beginning still stands today.Considering that we serve a God who does not change,how then can we accept that He has changed the very foundation of His creation.Moreover there is zero evidence in the bible of such a change taking place.

God's chosen people have always kept 'His day', the Lords Day as it is called in scripture.From Moses to John the revelator.

Revelations 1:10- I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

The Lord Jesus Christ said that the sabbath was made for man.Yet some say its for literal jews only.

I dont steal.
I dont kill.
I honor my parents.
But dare I say I keep the Sabbath.Now Im accused of being under the law.

Can someone help me understand this obedience to man ?Or is this sabbath thing just my personal conviction, not for anyone else.

Ephesians 4:6-One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

This verse is truly fulfilled again by the observance of Sunday.

Mark 7:13- Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
