Avatar: The Way Of Water

I thought they were people, not monkeys!

The smurfs were also people, but much smaller.

They were both blue though.

Bluey is also blue.

If you don't like the colour blue, or blue characters, then watch Clifford the Big Red dog instead.
Yes, they are humanoid. I used the term "blue monkeys" because that is what the guy who ran the drilling company (in the movie) called them.

I can't think of any good monkey movies, I know there WAS a monkey in the Lion King. But he wasn't the main character.
There was a movie called 'Monkey Business' but I think that starred Marilyn Monroe.

Gorillas in the Mist and King Kong are about apes, not monkeys. Monkeys have tails. The Avatar people do not have tails, so, am not sure why anybody would confuse them with monkeys. I guess those people don't understand sci-fi.

My favourite blue characters was Violet Bureauguard in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Still the one of the best children's movies ever made IMHO.
Actually, the Na'vi do have tails. This is how they "merge" with others.

What? ok.
I must not have been paying attention.

Avatar reminded me a little of Margaret Atwood's sci-fi novel/series Oryx and Crake. Has anyone read that book?

Me too. I love sci fi! :)

The dude who ran the drilling company is Parker Selfridge played by Giovanni Ribisi.

Victorian, when are you finally going to see the movie? I'm anxious to hear your review. lol!

I've never seen or heard of Oryx and Crake. Is it sci fi too? :)
Yep
From what I remember (ages ago since I read it) it was a dystopia or utopia? set in the post-apocalyptic future but everyone had become gardeners and they went round eating chicken nuggets that were genetically engineered and grown like plants in a nursery.

Oryx and Crake were named after birds.
There were two other books in the trilogy but it confused me and I didn't really understand the futuristic mating rituals. The second book was called the Year of the Flood and the third called Madaddam. Obviously a play on the Garden of Eden trope.

I think if I read it again I might understand it more but for me Margaret Atwood is agnostic so she's kind of not getting the whole spiritual component of the Garden of Eden story in the first place.

Would you recommend seeing it in IMAX 3D? Or the Titanic movie, which is also showing again.
After the floods we had, Titanic movie would be welcome relief. At least no ships sank and there were no icebergs.

Don't they give you a break in the middle?
I remember watching Titanic movie with Dad. He kept asking me when the ship was going to sink. It was taking forever.

The wife and I actually discussed that. I remember that the 10 Commandments had a break in the middle, but they do not do that anymore. Three hours and 15 minutes is a long time.

It was a very long movie, and I did mind the viewing time (it wasnt like Gone With The Wind, which still has an element of suspense).
I believe the producers waited too long between films. While their were many aspects I enjoyed, I would not choose to see it again.
There was too much "war" in it that diluted the beauty created that I did like.
