Tired of boomers

Well good things about NZ. Its very beautiful yes. The southern parts look a lot like Scotland because it's wild and rugged terrain. There are awe-inspiring fiords. (Though one of them Milford Sound, is very famous, but you won't want to live there because of the sandflies)
The North Island is very hilly.

The people are friendly in general. We are very laid back I think..there's no RUSH to get things done though that can frustrate type A people!
I think we are blessed in many ways, because our country is young and people often come here to start a NEW life. Our indigenous culture have a special relationship with this land. Imagine, coming from a tiny island in the Pacific to this colder yet larger land and nobody else is here. And there is forest all around you. There are mountains, and volcanoes and hot springs and waterfalls. There's plenty of seafood. There's lots of beaches because the coast line is long and narrow. You are never far from the sea anywhere in New Zealand.

One of the stories is how Maui fished up the North Island. If you look at a map of New Zealand, the north island looks a bit like a stingray shape. Legend has it that Maui fished up the north island with his magic jawbone. The canoe was the South Island and the anchor is Stewart Island. The North Island is hilly because Maui's greedy brothers took bites out of the fish.

Who is Maui..he is one of the Maori ancestors and there are many tales of Maui's cleverness and tricks. Among other things, he slowed down the sun and learned the secret of fire. He's kind of like a superhero in a way like Superman or Spiderman.

Regarding the generation gap.
There is this story in Maori legend

In the beginning Ranguinui (sky father) and Papatuanuku (earth mother) were in a close embrace. It was dark. They had seven sons but the sons complained that it was too dark and they couldn't see, and it was a bit suffocating. One of the sons Tawhirimatea said I know let's kill our parents. But Tane Mahuta didn't think this was a good idea. He suggested that they separate by using his powerful limbs to push them apart. So he pushed and pushed. The brothers all helped to push their parents apart. Then light flooded into the world and everyone could see! And the seven sons could grow up.

Generation gap?

might I add?...
Galatians 3:27-28 (KJV) For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

and by extension, neither young or old.
I don’t really think I understand what it means for everyone to be all one in Christ.
Does it mean we are not separate from each other?

yep
But I find that in most churches, the children are kept seperate from the adults or relegated to the back row. Also, while married couples sit together, singles often have nowhere to sit (in a sitting down church) and everyone keeps to THEIR pews. The other is that women get the dirty jobs like cleaning the toilets and men often get the visible ones and while they are first to speak, which is fine often the women don't even get a turn. The musicians keep to themselves often. They have their own retreats when others don't even get to participate.

Seniors have their own groups but in senior majority churches if you are single and working you don't have any group. There is no support if you are working, but if you are unemployed you can volunteer, but you probably won't be paid or given any food or clothing. A lot of churches seem to cater only for retired people as its the biggest group (baby boomers again) Sorry! I think its a great cohort to be in but those outside of it miss out.

Also, there are lots of church women ONLY events but this is not great for single women to only be allowed to fellowship with women. I got so tired of this, as if women don't really count so its seperate. I would prefer conferences where everyone can go, not just women. So while it's nice to be invited to women's only groups I miss out on fellowship with brothers.

I reckon church picnics are the best because everyone can sit down and fellowship together. There's no hierarchy or young vs old or male vs female or workers vs unemployed or bosses vs employees. You can bring and share what you like. It doesn't have to be a fancy dish either.

It seems to say that 'in Christ' there are not these differences perhaps because of...

Ephesians 2:14-15 (NASB) For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace,

It has more to do with our position in Christ, rather than our position in this world...so we still see Jew/Greek, male/female, free/slave etc. in this world, and in the instance I brought up...young/old, yet we are forever young in Christ.

I think I would choose to live in the North Island. I remember those pesky sand flues. You hang your washing out and the creatures storm in. Everything needs washing again.
Lobe the Mauri legend. What imaginations they must have.

What about the Kiwi? I remember you posting that they were on danger of becoming extinct. How are the efforts to stop that happening?

Age has nothing to do with maturity or wisdom.

Fortunately, age etc. does not matter to God.

I have 'Silent Generation' parents, I'm a Baby Boomer (IMO the word 'Boomer' is derogatory), Millennial kids, and Gen Z and Alpha grandchildren.

We all love, respect, and understand each other, and none of us ever blame anybody else for any hardships we may be, or may have, experienced.

My grandparents were part of the 'Lost Generation' - they lived through two world wars, the Spanish Flu, and the Great Depression. If anybody had any reason to complain, they did - but they never did. Respect!

The Bible makes it clear life is hard and full of trouble, especially for Christians (regardless of age):

John 16:33 - "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." KJV

Well, we have kiwi rescue centres and Department of Conservation (DOC for short) that have rangers dedicated to looking after kiwis in the forests. Some of the islands have been reforested and converted to predator-free sanctuaries for kiwis and other native birds.

So that involves trapping pests, like rats, stoats, possums and keeping cats and dogs off the island.
I don't think its cats that are preying on kiwis though it is more dogs that are the culprit, however, in nz dogs are used for hunting and as sheepdogs and I don't think farmers are going to give up owning dogs.

Some rangers have devised a kind of special deodorant or smell so that dogs can't sniff kiwis out and kill them. I don't know if efforts to make dogs NOT kill kiwis are that successful. (Like training them not to)

Personally, I can live without dogs and would be very sad if our kiwis were lost. I would LOVE a pet kiwi but..there are just too many dogs in the neighbourhood. Most kiwis need forest cover to hide in but any kind of habitat where they can make their nests is fine. Since they can't fly, they usually find logs or cavities in tree stumps.

still tired of boomers
They just have no clue, the world has changed thanks to their incompetence, selfishness and inaction and they don't care to understand the mess they left it in.

At many churches the young ones have mostly left at the earliest opportunity because the elders pretty much drive them away.

Hello Lanolin;

Before the Boomers (1946-1964,) I'm toward the end of the Boomers, were the Generation Builders prior to 1946. I remember how I criticized the older generation because they balked at our growing independence, innovation, technology, rock and roll and education.

After the Boomers came the Busters (1965-1983,) Generation Y (1984-1993) and the Millenials (1994-2002.) This is where everything enhanced in the progress of our world, taking it to a new level which in part is a good thing. Today the independence has grown toward liberalism, while this new generation is criticizing the Boomers.

It's easy to blame the previous generation and why they couldn't see the example of the new generation.

The issue with incompetence, selfishness, inaction, lack of care and overall mess is sadly, the responsibility of all generations.

I'm currently ministering to youth, young adults 17-early 30s, beside mid 30-40s, middle and senior age believers. The Church has been influenced by all the generations and has it's work cut out for them.

God bless you, Lanolin.

I think we all have to take responsibility. We all are sinful and no one is righteous. Not one. There is a very intense spiritual battle going on daily. Satan roams to and fro from the earth. We all have done things. It's not just 1 generation - it's all of us. Remember our walk with Christ IS our RESPONSIBILITY. Yes we are to discipleship - we can all contribute and raise up groups and our own community and family to teach and model what obedience and a relationship with God aligned with His Word. But blaming one or the other. We are all guilty. I would ask what are you going do about it? How does God want you to join His work? Where will you help your generation?
