Well good things about NZ. Its very beautiful yes. The southern parts look a lot like Scotland because it's wild and rugged terrain. There are awe-inspiring fiords. (Though one of them Milford Sound, is very famous, but you won't want to live there because of the sandflies)
The North Island is very hilly.
The people are friendly in general. We are very laid back I think..there's no RUSH to get things done though that can frustrate type A people!
I think we are blessed in many ways, because our country is young and people often come here to start a NEW life. Our indigenous culture have a special relationship with this land. Imagine, coming from a tiny island in the Pacific to this colder yet larger land and nobody else is here. And there is forest all around you. There are mountains, and volcanoes and hot springs and waterfalls. There's plenty of seafood. There's lots of beaches because the coast line is long and narrow. You are never far from the sea anywhere in New Zealand.
One of the stories is how Maui fished up the North Island. If you look at a map of New Zealand, the north island looks a bit like a stingray shape. Legend has it that Maui fished up the north island with his magic jawbone. The canoe was the South Island and the anchor is Stewart Island. The North Island is hilly because Maui's greedy brothers took bites out of the fish.
Who is Maui..he is one of the Maori ancestors and there are many tales of Maui's cleverness and tricks. Among other things, he slowed down the sun and learned the secret of fire. He's kind of like a superhero in a way like Superman or Spiderman.
