Is smoking against god?

Smoking also robs you of a whole pile of finances. Consider this, if you were asked to sponser a child for the amount per week that you spend on cigarettes, would you do it?

So very true, but that could be said for alot of things. So many people today feel like they need to buy the biggest house they can possible afford, the most luxerious car they can possibly afford, big name fashionable clothes, shiny jewelery, every new electronic gadget that comes out, etc.

1Co 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
1Co 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

If we are God's temple do we really have the right to destroy it? Selah.

Jesus says Gods commands are not burdensome.we have free will.i don,t see do not smoke as a command.or eat to many cream buns,or chocolate, etc.faith in Jesus prolongs life not dieting etc,or keep fit.FAITH.:)

You reap what you sow- that is biblical principal.

Gods commands are not burdomsome.if you do not affect others i can,t see the problem.driving a car does a similar if not worse thing.

It is however in this case a proven fact that second hand smoke kills. It is also a proven fact that the average smoker looses 10 years off his life- why would anyone defend that?

If the manufacterers took out the nicotine and the other drugs they inject to make those things addictive smoking would cease in a few months time.

Then we will have to disagree. Have you ever met a faith filled person with cancer? I have.

makes no diffrence,my dad died of cancer.if i lose faith then i become dead.as in i have no shinning light.God likes faith in him,and this i have.1 death to evil,1 life eternal with Good.:)

poor excuse boanges, you could say usa have hurri(cains)because there a sinful country.i see through rubbish.:)

You seem so arguementative Mike- I will not join you but I love you in Jesus Name and I pray you find peace.

Yeah, smoking is against God. Its a drug, you're taking a drug to alter your mind. Just because it is legal, doesn't mean its not a drug, and doesn't mean its ok. Although I can understand how people are addicted, and dont' want to quit so they feel the need to justify their sin, but at the end of the day, you know its a sin.

Although its easy for me to say, I don't smoke.

Caffeine is a drug. Coffee, sodas...how many of us are addicted to those drugs? So is insulin, and some people can't survive without insulin.

But yeah, I see what you're saying.

I just thought of a bumper sticker I saw once: "Thank you for holding your breath while I smoke."

:D

We have been told that cigarette smoke causes cancer,
and that it kills. In this article I would like to make you
aware of some of the chemicals found in cigarette
smoke that make it so deadly. Here are eleven of the
most toxic.

Acetone - A flammable, colorless liquid used as a
solvent. It's one of the active ingredients in nail polish
remover. The tobacco industry refuses to say how
acetone gets into cigarettes.

Ammonia - A colorless, pungent gas. The tobacco
industry says that it adds flavor, but scientists have
discovered that ammonia helps you absorb more
nicotine - keeping you hooked on smoking.

Arsenic - A silvery-white very poisonous chemical
element. This deadly poison is used to make
insecticides, and it is also used to kill gophers and rats.

Benzene - A flammable liquid obtained from coal tar
and used as a solvent. This cancer-causing chemical is
used to make everything from pesticides to detergent to
gasoline.

Benzoapyrene - A yellow crystalline carcinogenic
hydrocarbon found in coal tar and cigarette smoke. It's
one of the most potent cancer-causing chemicals in the
world.

Butane - A hydrocarbon used as a fuel. Highly
flammable butane is one of the key ingredients in
gasoline.

Cadmium - A metallic chemical element used in alloys.
This toxic metal causes damage to the liver, kidneys,
and the brain; and stays in your body for years.

Formaldehyde - A colorless pungent gas used in
solution as a disinfectant and preservative. It causes
cancer; damages your lungs, skin and digestive system.
Embalmers use it to preserve dead bodies.

Lead - A heavy bluish-gray metallic chemical element.
This toxic heavy metal causes lead poisoning, which
stunts your growth, and damages your brain. It can
easily kill you.

Propylene Glycol - A sweet hygroscopic viscous liquid
used as antifreeze and as a solvent in brake fluid. The
tobacco industry claims they add it to keep cheap
"reconstituted tobacco" from drying out, but scientists
say it aids in the delivery of nicotine (tobaccos active
drug) to the brain.

Turpentine - A colorless volatile oil. Turpentine is very
toxic and is commonly used as a paint thinner.

The toxic chemicals mentioned above are what you are
putting into your body when you smoke, and when you
draw this smoke into your lungs, your body has
absolutely no chance to defend itself from these
chemicals.

When you inhale, these toxins are drawn into your
lungs, through the porous lining of your lungs, and
directly into your blood stream. From your blood
stream these chemicals are delivered to every cell of
your body.

In order for the cells of your body to be healthy they
have to receive a steady supply of nourishment, but if
what they are receiving are toxic chemicals instead of
nourishment, the tissues and organs of your body will
be weakened to the point where they will become very
susceptible to disease.

The most likely disease that you will then develop is
cancer. This is because cigarette smoke contains some
of the most carcinogenic (cancer causing) compounds
known to man.

Even though cigarette smoke is not the underlying
cause of lung and other forms of cancers, it certainly is
a major contributing factor.

You may have thought that the cancer you develop as a
result of smoking cigarettes will only be limited to your
lungs, but that is not so, the cancer can develop
anywhere in your body. This occurs because all the
cells in your body are affected by the carcinogenic
compounds that are delivered through your blood
stream.

Cigarette smoke causes a great deal of harm to those
who smoke, but it can cause even more harm to those
who obtain this smoke second-hand. The person who
smokes inhales his smoke through a filter that removes
some of the toxic compounds, but the person who
inhales the smoke coming directly from the cigarette
does not have this advantage.

Children are especially vulnerable to second-hand
smoke. Most of the time they do not have a choice as to
whether or not they inhale these fumes, the adults
around them make this decision for them. If you have
children at home please keep the air that they breathe as
pure as possible. Keep in mind the tremendous amount
of harm that can be done by these toxic chemicals, and
keep these chemicals away from your loved ones.

Your lungs may be the most affected by these toxins,
but your heart is a very close second. Your heart has
direct contact with all the blood in your body, and
therefore, after your lungs, the cells of your heart will
be the most susceptible.

Another very important item to consider is this,
cigarette smoke is a major cause of free radical
production in your body, and therefore can cause an
endless number of diseases to develop, with heart
disease being at the top of the list. Also, free radicals
are proving to be responsible for causing your body to
age.

Now you can see why cigarette smoke causes such an
incredible amount of harm, and why the damage that it
causes goes way beyond your lungs. Every cell of your
body is affected by the toxins that are found in cigarette
smoke.

For anyone who still smokes, I hope that this article has
given you some added incentive to quit. The nicotine
found in cigarettes is extremely addictive, and you may
wish to consult your doctor or other health care
professional to help you kick this deadly habit.

I was going to post something very similar to this.:D

It saddens me...I hear a lot of justification for sin on this thread. Once you know it's sin you should not defend it...you should instead try to stop it...seeking help as needed.

And yet nicotine perhaps could be helpful if we get it from what we eat naturally (Tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, green peppers) in perhaps preventing AD or Parkinson's disease)

Now you know why your mother's were always getting on your case:

"Eat your veggies"

Nicotine ingested is a parasite killer. Inhaled it's a lung killer. God made nicotine and He has His reasons. Since nicotine is an excellent insecticide, my guess is that His purpose was to help control the insect population. Satan has used it to control the human population. IMO.

i would like to see the chemical list that fertilizes your food,or the smoke exhaust from your cars,or the chemicals to make you smell good.or the chemicals for peoples war faces.also i would like to know where it says smoking is a sin ,i must read a diffrent bible.is eating to many chips a sin,or being selfish to the healh athority?is eating chocolate a sin and bothering hospitals?is walking backwards a sin?what is a sin,who gives us a list of sins?are sins man made .does God really want to know if we eat too many custard creams in a day?my advice would be listen to Jesus not the sin brigade.

Can anyone tell me how it makes sense to knowingly harm yourself and others around you? It doesn't sound to good to me and in fact is a bondage. Does God impose bondage on us or the other guy?
I do drink coffee but it won't kill me and I kick off it a few times a year. Comparing nicotine whcih is a self imposed addiction to medically needed insulin is a little out there.

Gimme a break, okay!? I need one, heh.

I have decided that I'm going to stop smoking when I'm done. Alcohol was killing me at one time...I stopped when I was finished.

Just...let me gain my breath here before I start on the next one, aright? Hee hee hee:p

I was just saying...those things are drugs, too. You can't just say stop because it's a drug. A lot of people who are dependent on drugs don't even realize that they are dependent on any kind of drug.

Us smokers, on the other hand, get it shoved down our lungs practically ever day, heh. No pun. We're aware that it's a drug and most of us have - at one time - considered stopping.

That, in itself, should be a bravo - compared to a meth addict out there somewhere who has no intention of stopping any time in the foreseeable future.

If you smoke, worry. If you don't, don't. Oh, this world would be a much finer place if we all just minded our own business, wouldn't it? Hee hee hee!:D

I need a cigarette.

Yes smoking is unhealthy, and i would never encourage someone to start, but its only one of many ways we're destroying our bodies. Look at the continually increasing obesity rate. Especially child obesity. Look at all our overprocessed foods. Look at all the chemical drugs being thrown at us. All the pollutants pumped into our atmosphere. The list goes on. Yes, smoking can cause cancer, but id be curious to see what the actual percentage is for how many smokers do get cancer. But even then, how many of those people wouldve gotten cancer whether theyd smoked or not.

Yes, smoking is bad. If you've never tried it before, don't ever.

I started because all of my friends were trying it. It was cool, back then. And I wanted to blend in. It was hard to keep it down back then, I'd want to cough and "spit up". It made me dizzy and I felt panicky.

Today? A cigarette is the first thing I worry about. I count the hours at work. I look forward to my next cigarette with great relish. I depend on it to take away some of my stress, and I have dirty ashtrays all around the house.

It's filthy. When I hand in a report at work, that I might have worked on at home, the person receiving it always asks..."Do you smoke? I can smell it on the paper."

So yes, one day I will attempt to quit again. But my advice is...don't start. It might be playful at the beginning, but it gets serious very fast.

It controls you. Not the other way around.

God bless.
