the american dream

Hmm I know someone in texas. but he wasnt born there I dont think.
I dont really know much about new hampshire.

texas is quite a distinctive state.
Well, I thought america was meant to be more of a collective co-op than a one ring to rule them all, kind of thing.

No, I think a collective co-op is a fair statement. For instance, different states would band together in order to fight aggressors, but they ultimately did it for their homes. This was especially found in writings of soldiers from the Revolutionary War and the Civil War (by both Northern and Southern soldiers).

You're right in saying it's not a one ring to rule them all case since that would mean a central governing and nothing else. Although we're not getting to that point since the US isn't a republic anymore -- it's more of an oligarchy.

I heard that Alaskans dont pay taxes..is that true?

They do, but there are so many different kinds of taxes that some states may be more laxed than others. For instance, Alaska and Delaware don't have a consumption tax, but they do have a federal, capital gains, and income tax. They also have different penalty taxes like pretty much every state.

Nope, I don't that was lost at all. Although the question was also what the American dream is, not what is the dream to be holy. Not all Americans will even begin to consider holiness.
Which is a significant distinction between our Revolution and the French Revolution.

That's why I had to bring up the economic problem. There are good, inexpensive lands that could be occupied, but in areas where job opportunity or whathaveyou is lacking, the incentive to move their is lost. Some people have attempted to do this and either set up as settlers (so it wouldn't be permanent) or have purchased the land and intended to set up new businesses have been overshadowed either by bureaucratic interruption or difficulty in getting the customers or work they hoped for.

You are right, but this is so unnecessary. With the internet and UPS there is little you cannot have that you might want. In most cases and places you can even get it second day delivery. So why do we still want to live on top of one another? Plenty of nice space still to be settled. While the death of the American Dream definitely has spiritual aspects, too few are expecting to "get a good job" with too few now willing to really attempt to build something on their own. Tough to be independent when you have to rely on "the man" giving you a paycheck. Two generations ago there were still many farmers and small businesses-it was, more or less, the standard. And let me tell you from experience, when it is only God's blessings and your sweat which puts food on the table, you have no patience for social experimentation and you certainly do not embrace the idea that you should be forced through taxation to put food on the table of others who are unwilling to work. So, we quit looking to God for our daily bread, but rely on others as a standard and many things begin to break down. This is what I see as the killing of the American Dream. This is simplistic and paints with broad strokes, but I believe what I have conveyed is pretty defensible even if broad.

Interesting. Are there no more pioneers? why do people always want to congregate in cities?
ugh. I don't really like big city living...nothing much attractive about it.

Living in a ghost town isn't that much fun either.
I would just like a happy medium in a caring christian community. Problem is...so hard to just up sticks. I know Abraham did it, but he's a guy with a family. I'm just on my own, nobody wants to come with me. I couldn't even afford to anyway.

A woman alone is easy prey for wolves. Oh well, I can dream can't I?

There are still those with a pioneering spirit, but the big cities keep getting bigger. Even the small cities are getting bigger. What seems not to be growing are small towns. Though I perceive the internet to be the means by which the population can be permitted to spread out through a greater geographical distribution of economic opportunity and access to goods, it has not worked out this way. Would this direction ever take hold, I believe we could realize ever greater personal liberty (not licentious freedom) but we seem to be mindlessly willing to let go our liberty for comfort and convenience. Obviously we can drill have and exercise faith in corporate or urban environments, but when those who would seek suppress our faith come along, we are easier to corral in corporate and urban environments.

You have to be able to earn a living. That's the long and short of it. Most people do not have the skills or finances to be able to make a decent living away from the major business and industrial centers. If you have a good job, who wants to have a hour long or longer commute to work and back? that is time completely wasted.

Its harder being a woman cos ppl dont really pay for womans work, enough to live on.
Youd really need the support of a husband to move away.
The only single woman who moved would actually move in closer to the city, live in a cell, i mean aprtment, to be close to work in an insitituion I mean.

All the others have support from their husbands, if they are running a business, or are wives and mothers raising children.

Lanolin that is the same question I have asked over and over and over again, why do people want to live in cities. Give me trees and wild life and neighbors far enough away that you can make all the noise you want 3 am and no one complains but close enough if you need help they are there. Now that's liven sister..

Now then with all that said.......it is looking more and more like my future will become a full time live aboard and taking the Gospel of Christ to the water ways. Thee ol Great loop that is and the Bahamas and a little here and there AND OF COURSE FISHEN FOR FISH TOO like lake Okeechobee snook and trout and tarpon, thee ol grand slam.

No worries about T docks and busy marina docks and squeezing into a narrow longer slip for the Trawler the Lord has brought us too, has a huge gen set and a Water maker and so much more. Just watch the tide and current charts and of course the weather. 2 full heads a fly bridge and stand up engine room and a huge bolson locker or basement for ye land lovers and full size appliances including dish washer and trash compactor and so much more.

Yea why would any one want to live in a city other then to leave more country and water for us un-citified folks.
God Bless the great out doors

Keep praying about it and asking for direction. God has plans for you and will let you know what they are if you ask. We will be praying for you too!

Why do ppl want to live in cities?
Well, i was born in one, no choice. It did not start out to be big city, but was actually lots of small towns, joined together, and suburb developments. Then suddenly the govt just let immigrants keep coming and coming, and the whole urbanisation thing and globalisation started kicking in.
Those immigrants were promised jobs in cities.

There seemed no incentive to move to small towns, they didnt have airports or ports for export and import and international trade.
My sis left auckland for london. It seemed like she bought into the whole education, find a good well paid job and travel lifestyle. London promised plenty of jobs. She doesnt want to come back home, cos theres hardly any good well paid jobs here plus i dont think its cosmoplitan enough here for her anymore. If you rich, then it seems you can spend your life being entertained in the city. Theatre, concerts, shopping, festivals, sports, events, dining out, art galleries, museums, shows, casinos, etc.

Some ppl enjoy all that hustle and bustle. I just think meh, crowds. Traffic. Also..crime and horrible neighbours. It used to be in nz you hardly saw homeless ppl, now you do, and beggars. I thought that wouldnt happen here, cos i saw it in other cities been to, and now shocked its so common here now, never used to be, used to look after each other, but it changed with the govt and economy, and now ppl less caring and friendly than they used to be.

In small towns you get a different vibe. Depending on the town.

Now, property developers building high rise apartments when never used to be, and I think ugh, why would anyone want to live in those things. But they do.

It is only wasted if you waste it. That hour drive each way is the perfect time to fellowship with the Father. Put in a cd and get fed or praise Him for that hour drive home and once you get home you wont be draging in the hastles of the work day.

Time is a gift that we need to manage so if it is wasted then we wasted it on our own.
Blessings

Many industry and business corporations are completely sold out to babylon and the beast.
Ah that is why we need to inquire of thee Lord. He has the perfect place for each of us. He can send you to a place to turn it around or a place that you might be sweaping the floors but you are there to bring light into the place and He will Move You Up The Ranks.
God is Good and He really does have this for us if we will only allow Him to.

The hour it takes to get to work...adds more air pollution to ever increasing smog in the city when you go by car..then have to pay for petrol and parking and car rego and maintanence costs...if your job not a well paid one, half your wages end up paying transport there and back.
By time you get to work, so tired already. Then after working, facing the drive home, if you don't fall asleep at the wheel...or get stuck in traffic, then too tired to make dinner if nobody's making it for you. So maybe you drive somewhere get takeaway, then you get fat and unhealthy from eating too many takeaways, come home, fall asleep, or watch tv for a bit for some light relief, get informed of all the bad news that happened that day, go to bed, sleep, and then do it all over again.

You sitting on your bum in traffic when you could be exercising. But if it takes an hour to get to work by car, imagine how long it would take to walk to work. Maybe you need to walk for 3 hours!
