Bullying...why?

Did you love your enemies and witness to them? Are there christians now in those countries that you keep in touch with? As far as I know, the communists werent invading other countries...it was the US that went into theres and they werent there to keep the peace either.

I dont understand what it was all about, just that whatever the war was about was really silly.

Ok, I guess they do not teach works history anymore. The annexation of Berlin had to do with World War II, which I am pretty sure no one has ever called "silly."

All war is silly.

I did papers in inernational relations. World War 1 started with the assasination of archduke ferdinand. Over some insult or other. It set off a chain reaction of fights that resulted in two world wars.

We had civil wars in my own country. It was because maori tribes couldnt get along with each other, and then when pakeha, non maori came they couldnt get along either. Both misunderstood each other and fighting over stupid things.

The pakeha invite asians over as immigrants, and so naturally many come to work here but then they claim that asians invaded their country. Well no, pakeha INVITED them in, so now that there are many, why do they suddenly turn around and say the asians invaded the country? So stupid! Plus, the pakeha werent even the first peoples on the land. They forget that they came here uninvited. I mean there was no official call from the maori for more people.

God knows what happned cos He sees everything. If he wanted everyone to stay separate, he would never have sent Jesus to reconcile evryone.

Has anyone read the William Golding novel Lord of the Flies.
We were assigned to read this for English in high school. What a horrible novel. But apparently was based on Goldings experiences teaching schoolboys and his time in the Navy.

In a nutshell theres a bunch of english boys stranded on a desert island and they descend into savagry and bullying.

Of course, being female, I picked up on the conceit of the novel and noticed, there are actually no girls on this island. Would it be different if there were?

I really dont know why they assigned this book for reading in high school. Why all the depressing books? Diary of Anne Frank, Animal Farm, The Crucible, what did they think students were living in a war zone or something? Well at least they didnt assign us Once were Warriors, was just about sick when I saw that movie. But it was said they were planning to. Today the author Alan Duff has a long running charity to have books in homes for children. But not his depressing books...ones that are for children that are inspiring, or at least, dont have characters that get beat up and commit suicide.

Am reading Bringing up Boys by dr James Dobson.

Has some interesting info on bullies, that says they do it to be popular. And its reinforced by society. Then it talked about the school shooting incidents in the US. I am shocked, I read a first hand account about a school shooting at a high school where the killer shot some students, was after the librarian and then shot himself, in Colorado. The library was torn down afterwards.

There was an incident yesterday at my school, in the library. I closed the library and called the principal in. When my back was turned, two boys ran in shouting disrupting the readers, books were thrown around and chairs tipped over. I dont know if it was specific bullying but this is pretty serious. Some of the smaller children could have got hurt. The children reported who was responsible and the principal told them off, and got them to confess and apologisie to me. I told them i was disaappinted and would be locking the library down each lunchtime. The smaller children need somewhere safe to read.

When I shut the library children were banging on the windows wanting to get in, but I cant have that many inside and treating it like a tiggy playground with pushing and shoving, squabbling and bullying.

Please pray that my library be a safe haven and the children respect it and each other. There are bullies in the school and they think its good to bully, and the children know these bullies (they evn point them out to me) think they can get away with it. The bullies think its funny. Its not.

I'm sorry that you and the children are having to deal with this. Will certainly keep you all in prayer. And no- there is nothing funny about it at all.
I do hope things improve soon.

Thanks I am keeping those boys in prayer that they will learn to be kind and respectful. I said if they want to shout and run around they can do that outside..am not discounting boys need to be physical. I havent banned them from the library but they now know that I will keep it locked and only readers are allowed in. They were pretty contrite and embarassed.

I hope next week goes more smoothly. Some teachers complain their classrooms are getting too big There was one that had 27 children, but Im sure ive had more than that number come in to the library during lunchtime..it can be mayhem.

I dont know how some teachers cope, as no mother would have 27 children at once...I think an ideal class size is 12 tops.

Here in Florida, school officially starts on Monday, but teachers have been at work for a week. School starts this year, right after two mass shootings. We have already had two schools forced to go into lock-down, because of unspecified threats.

Out school system is the 4th largest in the United States; with over 350,000 students, 40,000 employees, and close to 500 schools (all in one county). We have our own police department, which is close to 700 police officers. This force includes K9 units and SRT. Even with these numbers, they are also adding armed security officers to each school.

Many teachers, to include my wife, are starting this year off in fear of what can happen. As an investigator for our school system, we receive an average of 15 incidents per week. Most are random acts of violence, usually physical and without weapons. I guess we will see what we see and can all use a bit of prayers for a peaceful 2019 - 2020 school year.

Have a blessed day,

This term we are having an enquiry topic called 'keeping ourselves safe'. Oh the irony.

The police do come to our school, not sure if they are there to patrol the grounds but they have some sort of relationship with the teachers. I really hope none of these children grow up and land in prison, but some may come from families were thats the case. Its really up to us teachers and support staff to provide that safe environment in the school.

I once applied for a library job at the prison in town. That was a bit of an eye opener, they gave me a tour of it. I dont think I would have lasted long there. The books were actually in boxes they didnt even have a proper room to have a library in. Maybe i will talk about that experience with some of the older boys.

I havent had a chance to have a serious chat about anyones behaviour yet but one thing I have noticed.

I made a challenge for children to say what they love about their dads. When they enter they can win a prize for their dad as its Fathers day coming up. Lots of children entered but there were a few that didnt want to enter this and I heard some say in a joking way that what they love about their dad is hes always drunk.

This is why they acting up in class. I cant imagine how they get to school each day but at least they do. One class is very bad they just cant sit still and settle. I know they are learning in their own way BUT its very hard for them and you spend half the time trying to corall them, its really like the difference between sheep and goats like the Bible says.

What can I do?

Oh and now ive got some books come in boxes from the national library. So I will be running the books just like they do in prison!

Hopefully I will get some readers...please pray for these boys.

I have no idea, as I have no experience in that. The older I get, the more I realize just how much my wife did that was transparet to be (at the time).

What do you mean, I dont quite understand...

Ok, you had asked “What can” you “so,” as it pertains to controlling your crazy students. We have five kids, but my wife was always in charge of the house and the kids. Through the grace of God, none ever gave us any grief. So, I really to not have the real-world experience on this subject. I like in a zoo. People are always at the house; the grandkids are always running around like monkeys in hunt of a banana. We have had people visit and stay overnight almost every day this past week. Through the years, I guess I just mastered the art of tuning it all off. At this very moment, it is pretty quiet. The wife is still at work and the daughter-in-law and two grandkids are taking a nap. Even the dog is testing. This peace and quiet is nice, but it’s god about 30 minutes before it starts again.

Oh ok so you put your headphones on and tune out is that what you saying? I cant do that at school but I dont react to every attention seeking child either...amd teaching them to wait their turn and that the library isnt the same as the playground. If they want to run around they can do that...OUTSIDE.

Ive also told a class of they continue to be rude and noisy when im reading a story to the class I will tell the rude and noisy ones to go sit next to the rubbish bin. Do you want to sit next to the rubbish bin?

NOOOO they said.

Yep I need to say all this because the teachers have tuned out. They think they can just leave them with me to babysit. Lol

And its more than just five. I can have up to 25 at a time. You try looking after 25 children at once singlehandedly.

One of the teachers said to me yesterday in her class the children were talking amongst themselvs about their dads cos fathers day is coming up.
One child says my dad is in jail, and the other says so is mine what is yours in for? My dad was a burgler.

These are five and six year old children....

I got in trouble with the principal for putting up some boundaries in my library. And having rules.
The principal?! She just thinks the library ought to be a place where children can run round, then insulted me by implying I only knew how to work in an office.

Anyway I wrote a very firm email clarifying the situation. I hope she gets the message or maybe she wants to swap jobs. Shes the one who works in an office and doest deal with classes of children every single day and at lunchtime.

A lot of people really dont understand what it takes to be a librarian.

Update...things have settled down and got better hooray. yesterday a boy who comes in the library regualrly confesses he has been a bit of a bully to another boy. He wanted to apologises and ask forigvenss but was scared to go back to class where the boy was that he hurt.
At first he said he thought it was unfair that he couldnt bully back and that he was only playing but the other boy reacted badly and violently.

I have noticed he sometimes teases the girls and makes them cry too. He didnt realise he was doing anythign wrong with this. I told him to stop it and that it hurts people when he does that. Also what may be playing to him is not to other people, who can be sensitive. And to also stay away or let people alone rather than tease them.

Please pray for this boy hes been going through a lot, he comes from a broken home just recently moved and lives with his mum and stepdad. Hes a senior boy and loves reading books. He also suffers adhd...some connections in his brain are slow to fire but in other aspects he can be brilliant. I talked with the teacher aide about this and he knows he can go to him as well.

Lanolin - Thank you so much for this update. We will keep this young man in our prayers as well as everyone in his family and everyone who he interacts with.

Blessings on behalf of the CFS Staff.

It's good that he apparently felt comfortable with talking to you. That means alot. Will be keeping this in prayer. (Maybe he might be able to find something positive to focus on? Maybe future goals?)

ADHD is difficult. My stepson had it. So I understand the challenges.
You taking time to show him that you care is important. God bless you for your efforts.
