Bullying...why?

There was a man called mendeles who was this medical person who did experiments on all concentration camp people, and he tried to justify it by saying he was saving the healthy people and culling out the weak and sickly. Thats eugenics and it comes from darwinism.

He was tried for crimes against humanity at nuremburg. Many of the worst bullies after the camps were closed, changed their names and went overseas to try and hide from what they did. But there were heaps of witnesses. They couldnt hide forever. They really did want to kill pretty much anyone who wasnt 'aryan. '

So horrific to read about. Its like they were in a factory farm and their spare parts were used for industrial purposes. But they were humans, not animals, but treated worse than animals. And animals can be treated pretty badly even today. People dont seem to think they are Gods creation too.

Bob I just wanted to toucn on something about nz laws about adults abusing children. We actually have a really sad record of child abuse in this country. Up till recently it was acdeptable for a parent to hit their child and call it smacking.

Ive seen children hurt and traumatised by adults and the scars are more internal and show up in later life. CYFS child youth and family are agovt ministry that deals with abusive or neglectful parents, social workers work to uplift a child if the situation is so bad they cant be taken care of and the children are fostered out and put into state care. The reality is some children may get fostered into more abusive situations.

Many cases are related to drug abuse by the so called parents.

In foster situations, the dangers may not be the foster parents but the other children already in the home who might bully the new child. And also those situations can be open door for molestation. Not that doesnt happen in birth families as well but it does seem prevalent amongst these kinds of dysfunctional families.

Anyone whos an addict cant be a consistent parent to anybody.

As for people no speaking up, again, bullies always claim victims are. 'Crying victim' and shouldnt be believed, but one of my friends died as a result of this not being believed. She rang the police and they did not believe her fears for her safety.

Its ok ...

Ive just been reading a horrific book about auschwitz. The SS, the people in charge of the concentration camps, were horrible bullies. And they didnt need to be, they just got a power trip from being cruel.

I do not think that "bullies" is the correct adjective for SS Nazi troops.

It is impossible to separate the Waffen-SS from the concentration camps. The original camp guards, the Totenkopf, were incorporated into the Waffen-SS.

All units of the Waffen-SS had a reputation for brutality and ruthlessness, especially those that served on the Eastern Front. The only division that was never accused of a war crime was the 17th Panzer Grenadier Division, Gotz von Berlichingen, which served exclusively in the West. Ironically, some of it's own troops were massacred, probably by the French.

I realise this isnt a very positive topic but maybe something positive will come out of it if we ask God to help us deal with it.

It happens in families, in schools, and in workplaces. It happens online. It can be devastating especially for the victims.

And yes Ive been bullied. Its horrible. It happns a lot in workplaces, just because you leave school doesnt mean people have left that playground mentality behind. Adults can be the worst. Ive seen it happen in retirement villages!

What can we do about it?

Ive just started a new job at school and I see it happen in classrooms. Even some teachers bully their own children. The older children sometimes gang up on the younger ones, there are fights and tears. So What can we do about it? Is it just peoples nature to pick on those who are younger or weaker than themselves?
I don't think there is a simple fix for this! This is one of the things which world thinks can be solved apart from Jesus. Bullying like everything else is rooted in sin. There is no cure for sin apart from Jesus Christ and His blood. Same would be true for bullying. There is no way to eradicate bullying from a person without cleansing of sins by Jesus. Everyone person bullies someone else to some extent. We do it without realizing. It is just human nature - like jealousy, lust, lies, etc.
What can be done about it?
Parents should set example to kids in humility. By following Jesus, teaching His Word to the kids. Set an example. It could help the situation.

Bullying is not new. Cain bullied Abel. Joseph's brother bullied him. David's brothers bullied him. And this will go on. This can never be eradicated. Personally, I don't think bullying is on increase. I would say there is increase in awareness. Bullying always happened and was always worse. We are hearing more about it and we will keep hearing more and more of this. I grew up in India. What we face is nothing compared to what goes on here. No one cares! I think nowadays there is increased awareness even in India.

Yea agree its not new. Some more thoughts.

Jesus said the first shall be last and the last shall be first.
Bullies always want to be number 1 and first. They will push their way through and stomp on people on their way up. Cain asked if he was his brothers keeper. What did he mean by that? Abel was a keeper of sheep. It meant he looked after them. Cain was meant to look after his brother.

In todays world, people dont look after each other, and children get taught subtly by adults, to look after only themselves. Every man for himself. Might makes right.

In families sometimes if theres an odd number, the odd child gets left out when everyone pairs up. I think people really need to take a look at their own relationships with their brothers and sisters to see how they treat others because I am wary of people that beat up on their own kin. People learn to share in families. They know they wont always have everything for themselves, that they wont always be first, that an older brother could protect a younger one.

But what happens in lots of families is that another child is born and the first one gets jealous of the younger one. Or perhaps one is a success and the others get jealous.

The cult of self it seems is entrenched because everything has to be about yourself...even some christian teachers say 'live your best life' and completely unaware that christians live as family and meant to call each other brother and sister.

Romans 14:7 says no man liveth for himself and no man dieth to himself.

Romans 15:1 says we that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

Yet so often the world will say we only exist to please ourselves, and those who are weak are not our problem.

I wonder if you are meaning......Dr. Josef Mengele???

If so then here is a link...……..https://allthatsinteresting.com/josef-mengele-nazi-experiments

I understand what you are trying to say about these people (Nazi) being bullies, but that is not a real good description. In fact it is a really good word for them.

A better description would be demonic psychopaths.

Ask a person who knew that camp what the worst part of it was, and the killing center at Birkenau is the hands-down winner. Ask a survivor of Birkenau to name the most terrifying murderer in the whole complex and they’ll give you the name of Dr. Josef Mengele.

Yes sorry I didnt have the correct name.
Im Just trying to relate to what I read about bullying, yes it extreme case but what would Josef Mengele have been like when he was young, a boy. Did he bully his brothers and sisters or treat them badly. Or look at the way people treat animals who are weaker than themselves thats often an indicator of future behaviour.

What about when Jesus was in the wilderness and satan was trying to tempt him, by taunting him, just like Goliath was doing to David. Satan is a bully.

It might be interesting, from a psychological viewpoint, to look at the 4 basic human personality types and see which type or types of personality traits would be even a partial cause for a person to bully others. One or two of these human personality types may not be the only cause of bullying. Social environments and family unit failures could also play a part in the bullying development.

Use the off site link below for a good explanation of these human personality types and use the info to figure out how some of them could contribute to a person bullying others. The types are "Analytical", "Expressive", "Amiable", and "Driver".

Interesting article. Using just the basic descriptions provided, I would say that the Driver is most likely to bully and the Amiable most likely to be bullied.

My experience with bullying comes from once having been bullied. The bully relies on (1) strength though either size, numbers or power and (2) a person’s weakness, either physical, economical, or emotional.

My bully was Eddie Williams. He was not physically bigger than me, but I was weaker in character. One day, Eddie and a couple of his friends “jumped me,” while I was walking home from school (believe it was the 5th grade). I was able to escape and run home. When my dad saw what had transpired, he made me return to the group and face them. Having no choice, I retaliated and came to realize I was actually bigger and stronger. That only happened once, as I never again allowed anyone to bully me - and no one actually tried again.

People who bully others do so, because of their insecurities in dealing with people on an intellectual level. If you can’t convince someone to do something, us threats to achieve your goal. As adults, bullies rely more on power (positional or financial) as a replacement for strength through size (well, for the most part).

I say this with some trepidation, but I believe that those who are bullied allow themselves to be bullied. “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times.” (Mark 14:30 (NIV)) is a biblical example of Peter allowing himself to be bullied.

The bible tells many instances where bullies were not allowed to bully by those they tried to bully. It can come at a cost, as so many of Jesus’ followers found out, but it is within all of us to stand up and refuse to be bullied. This is also true in the study of Victimology. Well, at least this is my opinion and I reserve the right to be wrong.

I have learned another personality type which is 4 ps...peaceful, powerful, playful and precise. It seems to me the powerfuls are the ones that are the most prone to being bullies and the peaceful types the ones who are most likely to be submissive or picked on, but they can often hold their own by resisting or refusing to cooperate with a powerful.

I dont quite understand why you think Peters denial of Jesus was a result of being bullied. I think its more he caved to peer pressure but I dont see that as bullying as such. Bullying is a lot more than peer pressure, its more threats and intimidation.

The bible, does say submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.

People need to learn how to resist. Its not throwing stones back but sometimes its just as simple as walking away or not listening to the devils lies.

Also you can use Jesus authority to rebuke. You can face up to them and say STOP that or NO. You can stand your ground too. Jesus did get his own back on the Pharisees eventually. How, he stopped saul in his tracks and blinded him.

Those Pharisees were murderous and seeking to kill Jesus, but Jesus couldnt be killed.

Good morning Lanolin,

Ok, I can understand why it might be confusing. I was looking at this conceptually. Here was my logic: Peter did something he did now want to and he did it out of fear. I think that is you break bullying down to it's basic components, you end up a simple formula: behavior - (fear + intimidation) = bullying. I also do not believe these people were actually Peter's "peers," but that's another story.

Anyway, looks like your weekend is coming to a close and my Sunday is about to start. Hope you have a great week. Wanted to leave you with am image of my morning. As you can see, we still have a good balance of structures and vegetation. It's going to rain today, but Sunday starting off beautiful.

You are correct. Many, many people do not want to have any confrontations. They just want to be treated nice and be friendly to everyone and basically that is me!!!!

So then when someone comes along who takes advantage of them, they simply allow it to take place for fear of getting hurt physically.

My real life experiences taught (Along with my father) that the only way to stop a bully is to stand up to them when it happens the very 1st time.

Will I get punched??? Maybe!!!
Will there be a fight? Maybe!!!
Will I get hurt??????? Maybe!!!

But what you will get for sure is a good feeling about yourself that you did what was right. Then you will not be a target for bullies anymore.

You are looking from a male persepctive though. A lot of bullying is psychological and the bullies dont ever punch or hurt you. Eg cyber bullying. And women and girls dont tend to bully physically. Although I did hear of a friend punching her mother once cos she was on her case. Her mum is STILL a bully though and has rages. Thats why she doesnt go and see her all the time.

Also your standing up to them doesnt necessarily stop them from bullying someone else.
