Good morning. Fiat currency just means that it is no backed up by come commodity like gold or silver. Our currency has value only because both the government and us agree that it does.

Printing more paper money leads to inflation. That is exactly what Germany did in WW2.
The USA currency has no intrinsic value as it has no backing. It is just like the values of Gold.
The value of Gold depends on who pretty someone thinks it is.
If you have a Gold coin that says it is valued by someone, at $29.00 and someone else has an opinion that it is only worth $2.00.
You are left holding the difference......but if you paid $50.00 to obtain it....you are in the hole due to someones opinion because there is NO BACKING for the valuse.

Ok, it memory serves me well, I believe the money was not actually "given" to them, but "retuned" to them. The Treasury inspector general (IG) examined the payments and reported on Nov. 10, 2016 that it had received verbal assurance from the Justice Department “that the settlement comports with the VTVPA.” In its semiannual report to Congress in March 2017, the IG said the payment was made “after receiving necessary information and authorizations from the Departments of Justice and State.”

As far as I can tell, when US INVADED other countries they weren't exactly DEFENDING them, like it or not, the civilians would have seen it as an ATTACK.
see there is a difference when we attack as you say. when the military has done its job we go in rebuild the country , the problem with iraq Afghanistan is the government was never stable the military was only as strong as we backed them by air support .
dont get me wrong our government and war is not perfect. but we dont round citizens up hold mass executions . we dont rape the women at random will. yes some soilders might and have. but it is not supported by our government .

Well, I think number 2 is silly and not worth addressing. Don't think number 1 is valid. Number 3 appears to be my final answer; however, have we given thought that the equipment was left behind to be used by the Afghans (had they put up a fight that lasted more than 12 minutes)?
Usually, if we can't (or don't want to) carry equipment back, we blow it in place or otherwise make it useless.
I don't know what happened here and I must admit that I have not been paying close attention either.
I did my time (25 years), so it's someone else's turn.

Weapons are made in a bunch of countries. We might make more of them and better performing, but every industrial country on the planet make weapons for use in conflict.
Maybe look for a better word than "invaded." We do not invade other countries. If we invaded other countries, a large portion of this planet would be our property to do with as we wished.
On the occasions when we have occupied other countries, it is either at the behest of that country or a country that has fallen victim (Korea, Viet Nam, Iraq). These conflicts just never end well and mostly because of the politics.
WWII was the last good reason we had to go to war.
