Panhandling Everywhere

I remember when I working my first job, I was making $86.00 a week. When I enlisted in the Army, I was making $600.00 a month. Times sure have changed.
I read somewhere that prices and wages dont go up, the value of the dollar goes down. Inflation is the problem.

There was a party at times floated the idea of Social Credit, which rather than doing an economic model of capitalism and/or communism/socialism, had something completely different in the way people would structure their work and lives and a different way of taxation.

However, most people tend to vote for one side or another and continue to contribute to the problems we have today with a big gap between rich and poor or the haves and have nots.

In NZ, we've now had to have an emergency cost of living payment for those earning under a certain amount, because times are tough. I'm not sure who or what is hoarding all the money or spending it on things that feather the beds of the rich..but its true that Bible says love of money is the root of all evil...it causes a lot of problems for both rich and poor.

The well off are not affected so much in times of crises. What happens to the well off is they see poverty around them and are aghast and inconvenienced a LITTLE but it does not affect their lives as much. However for those living in poverty its like each day is a day that you survived.

It's not an Obama doctrine its Robin Hood.

I think the thing with the Bible people would refer to stealing from Peter to pay Paul. Or something like that though Peter had no money and former Pharisee Paul was well off. But that didn't last long.

Jesus grew up in poverty, it was said Mary and Joseph couldn't afford to sacrifice a lamb at his birth but had two turtledoves instead. He was born in a stable, and had to flee the Herod regime (which was extravagant) and live in Egypt before it was safe to return.

The temple, grand as it was, was unsustainable it cost so much to build. It was pretty much a show off showcase for King Herod - a money pit.

The rich tend to be stingy and hold on to their money..that's why they are so rich lol.

It's funny to see peoples attitudes towards money that sabotage them. This is why CAP is an important ministry and many churches have budgeting services.

CAP==Christians Against Poverty

World Vision is also a big ministry that challenges peoples attitudes towards money.

Jesus noticed the rich Pharisee tossing his spare cash to the temple. He also noticed the widows mite that was all she had.
I think he was very affected by the way the economy was in his time and saw panhandling all around him too...and practically lived it, being homeless and having to pay tribute taxes as well.

Peter famously found a coin in a fish. Jesus said to give to Caesar what is Caesars and to God what is God's.

Thats the irony of the left. The liberal voters actually believe Obama, Biden, whoever is going to tax the rich when they are rich themselves. So it falls on the backs of those who work to support those who wont.

I think they do give some to charity.

A lot of them are philanthropists.

Bill gates is.

But if I was a millionaire billionaire I think I would look at the world with responsibility in how I could affect things for the better. I think they do get briefed on the current world issues which between them all make decisions on how much to donate and why.

I think my worst nightmare would be my financial team stealing for themselves.

Its more the super rich that can afford to do so. But it's kind of relative, wealth.

I read this book by someone who left Microsoft to found a charity called Room to Read, and they build libraries in donate books to those who don't have them in schools. He operates it on a business model, eg someone donates and they match the donation.

John Woods I think his name was.

Anyway he wrote about going out to drum up donations but he knew a lot of wealthy people with money to spare who could give. He wasn't really going to pitch to the ordinary person struggling to keep food on the table and pay the bills.

When you are below the breadline, you really feel it and you do what you can but it's a drop in the bucket compared to the wealth a lot of rich people have. Possibly socked away in a hidden Swiss bank account.

Most people don't have job security, and in a gig economy, their jobs only last for so long and then they look for the next one.
So to say 'get a job' is often quite meaningless as you might have a job one day and be let go the next.

Jesus illustrated this with his parable about the rich man and Lazarus, who was surviving off crumbs from the rich mans table.

Our schools here gave up on libraries a while ago. They have "media centers" which is all digital. A bunch of computers, printers, and an endless supply of digital stuff.

I have not been in a public library in years. The last time I went to one, which was actually to meet and interview someone, it appeared that the only people there were there to use a computer.
I have a kindle reader and occasionally buy an ebook. I find it a good option and it saves on shelf space.

I know this question isn’t aimed at me but I am tempted to say put them all on an island somewhere and leave them to it.

If people don’t like to earn their keep then why should we feed them?
The U.S. governnent always goes on about helping the poor. People in Africa are poor. People shopping with EBT cards and watching HD tv arnt what I call poor. Anyone in this country who is hungry has nobody to blame but themselves. The goverment likes nothing better than giving away money.
