sound doctrine

I also remember..this 'women's conference..there were some guys hosting the first part joking around..and one had a bra using it as a catapult for throwing prizes into the 'audience'. It was like religious theatre. And people running around going crazy. That was encouraged.
Some of it was ok..but it just seemed like with the music a rock concert with christian sounding lyrics. Complete with flashing lights, smoke machine and confetti.
That's sound pretty bazaar, dear me....
Is that a Christian way to act I wonder.
My church sermons are lively but I would not allow that.

For me, it does not sound like appropriate for any conference!!

I think this was the hosted by the same church that promoted the 'Lord of the Harvest' like pledge them heaps of money at least 10% of your wages.

I remember checking out this church service it was held in a rented hall in a sports stadium and the first half was this female preacher bragging about how she got married, like it was God's will, and then the second half was this skit or comedy routine. And they were encouraging people to lay hands on each other and pray for prosperity and financial breakthrough. It seemed to be, if you gave them money YOU could be as rich as they were.
They also..I remember got one half of the church to sing 'this is the day the Lord hath made' competing with the other half. And then had CDs as prizes (christian rock music probably) as part of their service.

I said to the man next to me..do they just want our money or what? He agreed, and I kinda left before it got anymore weird. They didn't notice.

I have heard some churches say as their slogan or mantra 'give till it hurts'.
They only want rich business people going to their churches. those are the people that can afford to go anyway.

I hate that saying.
If someone proposed that in my church they would be informed that less is more.
We shouldn't say give until it hurts...that's not good.

and while they quoted the Bible it was like all different versions like they couldn't just settle on one. 'Message bible' seems to be used quite a lot, or whatever version fits with what they want to say, and verses quoted all over the places without context. Makes you dizzy.

Anyway..I knew in my spirit that, these kinds of gatherings are aspostate. I think with the conference we only went cos another sister paid and I thought I should check it out to be polite and see what the fuss was about. Then she couldn't go at the same time as me so I half paid for another sister as wasn't going to go across town all on my own.

Last year I think she did again offer to pay half but I said no. I'd rather go on retreat. I don't need all that hype. they do encourage those that go to shout their friends to encourage more to go thus more profits.

What takes the cake is a suggested 'donation' for a cup of tea. Cup of tea!!!

It's not really my place to say, but it sounds suspect.

To me it seemed like..they are using Jesus name...to go after profits. 'prosperity'
And they seem really sincere and not aware they doing anything wrong.
I don't quite understand unless Jesus wants to save business people and encourage them to be generous. That part maybe but I am not in that category. So maybe its a kind of church only for them.

Indeed, if you're not happy with it, perhaps it's time to move on.
Hopefully it's not in misguided means.

It's all about finding one you like and enjoy. It certainly sounds like that one wasn't for you.

well..everyone else looked like they having a good time but I was miserable and couldn't wait to leave. Wondered if they were faking it as well cos some preachers always say tell the person next to you they are awesome like directing us to be fake, clap and smile and be louder.

When I'm worshipping I don't need to fake it.

Exactly.

anyway..just my experience. I'm sure people have stories of their own going to what looks like churches and finding they teach some weird doctrine.
