Well, please dont say things that arent true like nzers have oaths of allegience when we dont. The only thing we have in nz citizenship ceremonies for immigrants and im sure they dont involve oaths. Also, our passports have silver ferns on them not flags.

I will ask though, why do americans have funny symbols, like republicans have elephants when america doesnt actually have elephants as native animals. I can understand eagles, but elephants? What does that symbolise? Also...what is the democrats symbol. Is that an animal too?
 
Kiwi..the only bird apart from chickens and emus and ostriches, that doesnt fly.
In fact, kiwis dont even have wings. If they do they really well hidden or useless. But they sooo cute.

Back to the subject at hand...

I don't think the US is unique in using animals as symbols. It is pretty funny at times, but I suspect it extends back long before the US ever existed. Animals have for many centuries, within different cultures, been used to illustrate something.

The Democratic party uses a donkey.
 
Im thinking little lambs cute...although, nz is known for its sheep and wool too. But our nz wool symbol is a ball of yarn.

Thats so funny. I would take the affirmation and not the oath cos im not religious and Bible says not to take oaths. Jesus said let your yes be yes and your no be no. However was born in nz so dont have to do citizenship ceremony. But we did used to sing the anthem in school, in both languages. No flag waving though.
 
Interesting. lion King...remember that movie? In the middle ages there was a belief that the lion was the king of all the animals.

But nobody ever said the lamb was actually the true King.

The Democratic donkey was first seen with Democrat Andrew Jackson's 1828 presidential campaign. His opponents called him a jackass (a donkey), and Jackson decided to use the image of the strong-willed animal on his campaign posters.

The Republican elephant was 1st seen in a cartoon that appeared in Harper's Weekly in 1874, a cartoonist drew a donkey clothed in lion's skin, scaring away all the animals at the zoo. One of those animals, the elephant, was labeled “The Republican Vote.”

Lions are called kings of the animals because they are at the top of the food chain!
 
Yea there used to be this lion safari park not far from where i live. It closed down cos the lions were eating people. Well..they did! If they ever escaped. Otherwise, they just fed them fresh lambs. I think the lions enjoyed killing live ones.

If you just fed them already killed lamb chops, they complained.
Actually i think lions prefer christians, especially in roman times.

"why can't the Holy Spirit do what He wants?"

Does the Holy Spirit need our permission, our yielding, our allowing, or our submission to do what He wants to do in our lives?
I thought that the Holy Spirit WAS the 3rd Person of the Trinity.....God!

The thinking that we give the Holy Spirit permission to be God in our life, expresses the notion that man is superintendent over the Holy Spirit in his own life. That my sister simply is not Biblical in any way what so ever.

You don't have to agree with "my thinking", but you do need to agree with God's word. My experience and millions of others attests to the scriptural record of a separate experience of he baptism of the Holy Spirit. Yes, we need to submit to it. countless Christians never do, and they can live good lives in Him without it, but not lives that exhibit His overabundance of anointing and power.
